#Dressemberbound Continued Prompt: Disney Pigs 🐷 #Disneybound: Piglet in Christopher Robin Human trafficking is an issue that impacts the most vulnerable in our society, in this case: the foster care system. According to the Child Welfare Information Gateway, approximately half a million youth in the United States experience foster care placement each year. The risk of trafficking increases when an individual runs away from a foster care placement, and youth who have experienced trafficking are grossly overrepresented by those in the child welfare system. The Dressember Network provides vital research and resources to the anti-trafficking movement and also supports prevention programs among vulnerable youth in the U.S. and beyond. By giving to Dressember, you help provide training and support to prevent children from becoming victims in the first place. A criminal record also acts as a constant reminder of their trafficking experience and confronting that can cause retraumatization. Survivors are routinely burdened with numerous records in multiple jurisdictions, requiring a comprehensive national approach to ensure that survivors have access to the full range of relief in a trauma-informed and strategic way. #Dressemberbound continued Prompt: Thrifted #Disneybound: WALL-E 🪴 Children all over the world deserve to live free of exploitation. The International Labour Organization shares that for 160 million children that is, sadly, not the case. Child labor is more than working long hours or doing day-to-day chores. The ILO describes these actions as actual labor, often conducted under the minimum working age, that is directly depriving boys and girls of their childhood and keeping them from gaining an education—and in many ways, it is stripping children of their dignity, personal freedoms, and safety (as these forced actions are often very hazardous). I am committed to taking a stand against the exploitation of children everywhere and that is why I am doing the Dressember style challenge. #Dressemberbound Day 31: Dedicated to.. #Disneybound: Minnie Mouse in Soundsational. This bound is dedicated to the ladies in my church who pitched in together to buy me my first ever ticket to a Disney park (Disneyland) in 2017. It was the sweetest gift, and I still think about it to this day. This picture of Minnie is one I took on that trip. I’m returning to posting at the end of December to remind you that even though Dressember is technically over, the fight to end human trafficking never truly stops. Throughout the month of January and into the future, I will continue to advocate for a world where slavery is a thing of the past! Traffickers prey on society’s most vulnerable members. The Dressember Network protects vulnerable populations through prevention programs in the United States and works with local officials to provide culturally appropriate care. In some cases, parents exploit their children in forced labor and sex trafficking to supplement family income lost as a result of pandemic-related job loss. When you support Dressember, you support aftercare programming in Uganda that empowers each survivor to heal from trauma, be free from revictimization, reconcile with family and community relationships, and eventually reintegrate into the community. Studies show that traffickers believe trafficking Black women would land them less jail time than trafficking White women if caught. Black women and girls are often targeted by traffickers and profiled as dangerous, criminal, and guilty by the police. Traffickers have learned to exploit vulnerabilities, and statistically, black women and children have more compounding vulnerabilities than other populations, making them an easy target for exploitation. The Dressember Network fights discrimination through prevention programs in the United States and works with local officials to provide culturally appropriate care. Dressember Network partners actively work to support criminalized victims of trafficking who are often wrongly accused due to bias and discrimination.
