Musician focus! Drew Mill - ‘Over & Over’ backing vocals, dear friend, bassist for the upcoming live material. What’s your favourite song on the EP? ‘Golden Heart’ - it’s the one I can relate to most. I know how much effort went into creating it. There was a great combination of people in the studio that I’d never met before. I still remember you writing it when it was just bare bones. What inspired you to be a musician? I didn’t actually get any inspiration at first. When I was at high school all my friends were musicians. They needed a bassist so thought “It’s only 4 string, how hard can it be?”! From there I borrowed a school bass and we practised every lunch time. The room we played in was so small the drummer had to climb over the kit. So really it was that my friends were doing it and I wanted to hang out, and through that I grew to love playing bass. Question for Leon: You study characters in your music; are there any characters you wouldn’t want to explore? This first EP saw an exploration of some of the darkest aspects of being human. Particularly ‘I Cry’ and ‘Open The Red Door’. I do think there are some untouchable subjects, things that should be left alone and forgotten about. Some things need to be confronted head on though.
