Planning!
Planning this journey has taken a lengthy timeline, I am thankful I had the time to planned since the surgery was planned so far in advance.
I am going to be gone from December 3rd throughout December 31st.
Getting there PART 1: I bought a one-way (since I was not sure of what to expect, sort of was waiting to see who would come with me/return with me) flight to Frankfurt, Germany for $250, on the budget airline WOW, this includes baggage and a meal. Booked my train from Frankfurt to Mülheim on http://bahn.com. Trains are about 30 euro.
Flying from Cologne (about a 25 min train from Mülheim) to Manchester for Christmas with friends, then a train to London.
UNFORTUNATELY, I put off booking my return so it went up in cost! from 250, then 350, then 500+ (flying home from London).
Staying there: I booked an apartment through airbnb.com, near to Hotel Thiesmann, which was recommended, but costly for the month. There’s a 3-day gap where we will have to jump to a different apartment. I will review and post the apartments if they are comfortable for us post-op ladies!
I bought a mattress protector, and my own fitted bed sheet, I may also bring a sleeping bag or some sort of top cover to stay warm. I’m so worried about leaking at a rental apartment! A fellow lippy told me garbage bags are super useful, too.

Helpful hands: My husband is joining me from December 3rd through December 11th, through my first surgery. My girlfriend from London will be flying in on December 9th and staying with me the rest of the way. I am so grateful! She’s one of my top travel companions, hopefully we will get some adventures in.
NOW, to plan my last surgery (hopefully), for January 30th!
Getting there PART 2: For my (hopefully) final surgery, I booked a RT with Virgin Atlantic for Jan 27 - Feb 11 for about $506? Great airline, no weird luggage costs or food costs. If there’s a deal on Virgin, jump on it!
I booked a RT with British Airways (£140 I think) from London to Dusseldorf Jan 29-Feb 6, and need to just book my trains back and forth from Dusseldorf to Mülheim! EASY PEASY.
I got some swanky deal at a hotel in London with my rewards Amex for day in London that I am so excited about. I usually sleep at a friend’s place when I visit but decided to live a little and invite them over to the suite instead!
