Tie-Dye State of Mind

Pairing: JB (Drift 2013) x fem! reader

Author's note: Oh JB, the loml. I cannot recommend this movie enough. Sam is so funny in it. Also, ignore Jimmy in the pic I just couldn't find a better angle of JB's dyed hair lol.

Summary: JB lets you redye his highlights

The bus is filled with the haze of smoke and music. The warm sun is shining through, allowing the light to be a backdrop for your activities. Multiple bowls and brushes line the little flip table in the kitchenette. JB sits on one of the diner-style seats. He's hunched over, with a joint between his lips, looking at the dye options you've presented.

His eyes are scrunched up like he's studying the options of the rainbow laid out in front of him. There are the usual blues and greens that he has in his hair right now. They've all but faded, leaving only tints of the once bright colors. You've also provided red, orange, purple, and pink. Just in case he decides to switch it up. Though the glint in the stare he sends your way as you sway to the groovy beat, and the smile on his face tells you he won't.

JB takes the joint between his fingers before he begins to speak. "Dal, I appreciate the effort, really, but I think I'm gonna stick to the usual," he chuckles softly.

You roll your eyes at that. For a man that's constantly moving and go-with-the-flow he has his look curated. He's even wearing his favorite knit jumper. The cool breeze from living on the coast offsets the blazing Australian sun.

"C'mon JB, live a little! Get crazy with it, put some pink in there," you exclaim. You go to sit beside him, throwing your arms around his shoulders, and plant a kiss on his cheek. His beard tickles your lips, and the sensation sends butterflies to your stomach.

JB pulls back to give you a kiss of his own on the lips. It feels electrifying and like home all at once. You think to yourself, there's nowhere you'd rather be than on this cramped bus with your eccentric hippy boyfriend.

"Right," JB says, patting your leg once he breaks the kiss. "Let's get this shit done, we're burnin' daylight," he says with a small shake of his head and a grin on his face.

You nod, lifting yourself from beside him to grab the bowl filled with a baking soda and lemon juice paste. This will help lift the dulled color that remains, even if he's sticking with what he has, you're switching up the pattern.

"Ugh, this stuff feels awful," you complain. The substance feels tacky and gritty, coming in contact with your fingers as you hold the strands of his hair, applying it with a repurposed paintbrush. This was a spontaneous decision, so you have nothing to protect your hands from the sensation. JB laughs at the disgust on your face.

"Hey, you're the one who wanted to help!" He exclaims. There's still humor in his voice as he says it.

Once he washes the mixture out of his hair, and it's dry, you go to work applying the dye. The combination of blue and green works well with his natural brown. But you still feel like something is missing.

"JB, can I please add purple? It would look good," you plead with him. You left patches of blond on the off chance he gives in to you. You can tell from the incredibly fake sigh and the glare he throws your way with no real threat behind it that he sends your way, he already has.

"Fine. You're lucky I love you," he playfully grumbles. You let out a shriek of excitement at his answer. You grab your tools and fill in the patches with a royal purple. The amalgamation of colors looks beautiful. You pull back to appreciate your masterpiece, and your heart starts to race at how this new look has added to his features.

"Okay, done," you tell him in a hushed tone. It's as if just the sight of him has taken your breath away.

"Thanks, lovie, be back in a jiff," JB says with a wink. With that, he's up out of his seat and headed back to the bathroom to check himself out.

AAAAAAAH I LOVE JB!!!! I have so many more ideas for him!

Guys I feel so bad but I swear I'm writing. I've just been super busy. I'm almost done with a new fic and then I'm gonna start on working on more than one at a time 😅 I've also been trying to make my own gifs and banners so that's eating up writing time.

Remember when I said I was making my own gifs of Sam? Yeah, this one's my favorite 😍 in an interview talking about preparing to play JB Sam said, and I quote, "I wanted to be really unappealing." And I'm over here like #NEEDTHAT
