Drinking To Remember || Open
Zeus motioned to the bartender for another drink. Although Kingsley had offered him a place at his holiday table, he hadn't felt like imposing on his friend's family time with his daughter. At least that's what he told himself. The truth was that the holidays held strong memories of his wife, and as such he didn't hold the same spirit of the season that those around him did. He was no Scrooge, but he sure as hell was no Little Tim either.
He took swig after swig from his mug as memories of Juliet played behind his eyes. He never truly felt the loss of his wife, his sorrow was too deep and so he simply had not allowed himself to. She had been his light. A light doused too soon and too fast. He continued to drink toward stupor, each mug making his surrounding blur but his thoughts more clear. His wife's smile, her bright eyes, her laugh, and the way she walked all became more and more vivid with each consumed ounce. It was almost like she was there with him, sitting on the stool beside his. This wasn't the case, he knew, for that stool was as empty as his life without her.
He gave a short chuckle at the direct symbolism and chugged the last of his glass. He motioned yet again for another, blinked slowly a few times, and turned on his stool to look at with other bodies occupied the establishment.
