The stranger wiped his forehead with the back of his hand. His shirt was stained with oil and grease, and the small red toolbox he carried showed signs of wear. He was back from the body shop. It was hard work, but he didn't mind; It kept his hands working and his mind at bay. He needed it, lest he move again.
He took a right turn, the hallway to his apartment. As he made his way down, he saw another figure standing there. He paid no mind at first, he wasn't interested in speaking to anyone…
But the stranger stood still once he was almost at his own door and he saw them more clearly.
The man from the diner.
When he first moved in after traveling from LA, he had only gotten a glimpse of the other once after leaving for work; He poked out of his apartment once for his only visitor, but he hadn't seen him leave since. The only exception was at the diner.
Now, he stood some feet behind him, watching him struggle with what appeared to be a broken key.
