Even I was surprised by how many vintage lobsters I’ve so far collected.
Musings of a bald lunatic
back again for more punishment...
so what’s the next step in my process? where do i go from here? why should i travel in any particular direction, say this way or that? all these questions keep cycling inside my head, perpetuating a constant state of indecision.
it’s really starting to piss me off.
then again, my extreme analytical nature causes much (if not all) of said divisiveness - nobody else to blame here. step one is, of course, to interrupt the thoughtstream long enough so i can actually breathe & regain some inner stillness.
recently took an exploratory trip out to AZ for the purpose of reconnaissance & perspective restoration. with this change of venue came clarity on the sneaking suspicion that i don’t belong in WNC whatsoever.
Phoenix is a sprawling sea of concrete & congestion. i stayed in Tempe, one of its nicer suburbs. driving around the valley, people always seemed focused on getting from point A to point B, never really slowing down enough to enjoy the moment.
this is a typical city mindset, which i’ve encountered elsewhere in places like Denver, Boston, San Francisco, etc. it’s also one of the main reasons i dislike larger metropolitan areas.
i much prefer smaller markets, say between 20-40k people instead of a million plus.
population density aside, the surrounding Sonoran desert is a beautiful place. i rode several prime spots in PHX & Tempe, plus hiked up in Scottsdale at McDowell Preserve - such a different feeling there than the woods of WNC.
the weather was perfect - light winds, sunny & 65-70° F with less than 15% humidity. of course, this is only a seasonal respite from the summer heat when temps soar to 120° fairly often. i wonder how i’d fare in that brick oven climate from May-October.
but i digress: the trip was meant to be a survey of PHX & its possible livability. my conclusion? Southern AZ is damn near perfect during the winter, but would probably be stretch in the hotter months. guess i wouldn’t know for sure unless i committed to a full year.
so, back to the original premise - what to do next? probably just organize myself as much as possible, pack the car & drive off into the sunset with no definitive destination again...
WTF else is new?
that is all.
