This type of fishing vessel is in Danish called “drivkvase”. KVASE refers to the kind of boat that has a pond, which means there’s a “room” in the boat where sea water is allowed in enter via many small holes; to keep the catch alive untill landed. DRIV means drift, and has to do with the method of fishing used: a net / trawl would be attached between the fore and the aft boom, ant the boat would drift down wind with her sails aback.
This boat is called Karen. Built by Christian Nielsen of Fejoe in 1900. The boat is designed for relatively protected, shallow waters. Many of these drivkvase were ketch rigged and just under 30′ long. They had a sword keel that could be lowered in, when travelling deep enough waters. It was originally a Pommeranian boat design from the 1850ties called a zeesenboot.
