The Umbrim Auction House, known for its versatility in antique goods, is the most prominent auction house in Vievecor. The venue was founded by Isabelle Laurent in the 19th century and remains in the hands of her “descendants.” Its name was a creative choice that sprouted from the Latin words umbra and imber. The Umbrim Auction House have started partnering with local galleries after its expansion into Droitwich.

The house’s two stories are themed red and gold for most of the year. Each auction house is about two stories tall with three underground floors. Bidders are guided to the first basement where auctions take place, where they spend lavish amounts of money on rare and archaic objects. What the Vievecor Natural History Museum hasn’t snatched, the auction house has, ready to sell to the highest bidder. 

The bottom floors of the auction house located in Klin are used as the Sisters of the Night’s headquarters.

Or how about paint?  For this mail art call  I wanted an open book with a book with a big New Mexico sky.  Willa Cather’s Death Comes for the Archbishop is one of my all time favorite books. Every time I read it immediately takes me to the Land of Enchantment.  This one is on the way to the U.K.

#365daysofbiking Feeling flush:

March 11th - I had time to spare so hopped onto the restored canal at Droitwich for a mooch. Just under the railway bridges in the last entry, I noticed this relic of the Ordnance Survey.

Flush Bracket 480 is one of a range of such brackets intended as mapmaker’s datums, the slots in which were for mounting surveying equipment at a known datum - in this case 28.7490m above sea level (the Newlyn Datum). 

Now redundant as cartographer’s aids, these are more a historical curiosity than anything else, but I still get a buzz from spotting them in the wild.
