Insulation Mixed media, 2017 Playback audio: 8min loop, mini-FM transmitter, radio receiver, found objects, wool.
'Insulation’ is a mixed media installation that explores the tripartite relationship between materiality, corporeality and evanescence. Very Low Frequency radio signals local to Stoke Newington are captured and rebroadcast inside the Old Church on a narrow-range FM frequency. This process is illustrated by the placing of symbolic artefacts on the gallery floor. The curled chain suggests detainment, whilst the leather skipping ropes denote freedom of movement. Both objects lie on beds of unprocessed wool - a material that can protect as well as smother - and question the tactile nature of silence as well as its role in our everyday interactions.
