How To: Drop Classes and Pay Fees

I hope you enjoyed Fall Orientation week! Now that we are a couple weeks into the first semester, there are a couple of important dates to draw your attention to. First off, the drop deadline!

 September 19th: Drop Deadline

The drop deadline is the last day that you can remove or drop classes without consequence. Now that you have been to a few of your lectures and have a sense of what the classes are like, you should draw your attention to the drop deadline! If you have found the course load to be overwhelming, or if you dislike the class, you can drop the class before September 19th and the class will be removed from your schedule, disappear from your transcript, and will not count towards your GPA. September 26th: Fee Payment Deadline

If you are not yet aware, the summary of the fees that you owe the university can be found under the “Account Summary” section on your Student Center. September 26th is the fee payment deadline for the Fall Term. There are several ways you can go about paying for these fees:

Debit and Cheque: You can pay for your fees in person at Enrolment Services in MacKimmie Library Block 117

Online (RECOMMENDED): You can pay your fess online through the Student Center. I recommend this method because it means you can avoid yet another lineup! If you choose to pay online, we recommend that you pay the fees a few days early to allow time for processing.

Hey! I saw all these questions about dropping courses and I wanted to know, what's the difference between enrolling into 5 right now, and then adding korean and dropping out of one of the original five, and enrolling in 4 now and then adding a 6th on August 9th? Does it make things easier? And also, my back-up course is going to be a course with a section code on "Y" however, the claendar states that November 4 is the last day to drop courses with SC "F" can I drop my Y course on the first week?

From what I've gathered in the past Korean is a course you can't really enrol for so much as you can apply and be interviewed for, and then be enrolled by the department itself. So that course is really (or at least should be) treated as a 6th course, that is, if you want to maintain a full course load. That way, you can enrol in five courses on the day of enrolment and always drop one should you get into Korean. 

Also, it doesn't make sense to enrol in 4 courses on monday and enrol in a 6th on Aug 9 because you wouldn't have 6 courses, you would have 5.

Y courses are full year courses and as such will have later drop dates than the F courses which are first semester half year courses. Still, it's a risk to drop courses half way through the year and maintain a course load because it cannot be guaranteed you'll get into a class (especially one you want). It's difficult, but not altogether impossible.

how do you drop a course? Can it all be done on ROSI and is it easy? Just want to know because I need to register for a backup course now (I register tomorrow) because I'm looking to take Korean and the interview isn't until the 5th of September:)

But also know that on August 9th you can enrol in a 6th course, so if you want a backup course, you can always wait till then :)

Hello Blurty girl! I would like to know how to drop a course! Do I just log in to ROSI and click "drop" hahaha. And also, what happens if you already attended one lecture, is it ok?

Yup, that's pretty much it, anon! And yup it's totally cool to drop a course after you've attended a few lectures, even tests, as long as you withdraw from the course before the drop date. After the drop date it will show up on your transcript, and some graduate programs or places of employment frown upon that.
