Feeling grateful. I survived my first week back to work. 50.5 hours of work and fun yesterday painting children’s faces for the Crane Co. earth day event. It’s so much fun to see the joy in their eyes when they look at the mirror after they have the images painted on. It’s so nice to see all my coworkers. Thankfully, not a lot of pain while at work just pain at night waking me up from sleep and that’s less all the time. God is good. WALKING SHOES

I went walking around the pond with my hubby yesterday, then grocery shopping, oh and did laundry before that. I did good 🙂 Someday it will be more steps, I’m lucky if I get 2,000 a day. To all who may be having to make a decision to have a knee replacement surgery, think twice!

Over 3 months ago I had my knee replaced because of both arthritis and bone on bone. My system is such that pain killers don’t work for me. From 3500mg of acetaminophen a day to 20mg Hydrocodone, to the max dose of Oxycodone, nothing killed or even took the edge off the pain. So the pain has been constant since surgery.

5% of patients develop something called Drop Foot. This is when your foot points toward the ground and you can’t lift the foot or toes upward. Walking normally with this is near impossible due to the fact that you will catch your toe on the ground and will face plant into the ground. For some people movement returns within an hour or so, some take longer. In my case it’s been over 11 weeks and I have no movement in the up motion of my toes or foot. I have spent 12 weeks in rehab to get beyond the loss of muscle and range of motion in my leg along with therapy for the drop foot.

I have come to the conclusion that having my knee replaced was the worst mistake I’ve ever made in over 65 years. The pain and the leg brace I need to wear now is 50 times worse than the bone on bone pain from before the surgery.

Quality of life has dropped drastically and the Dr. still can’t figure out what happened. I’ve had X-rays and MRIs and EMGs and I’m still waiting for them to find a fix.

So……before you decide to have ANY major surgery ask as many questions and ask about any and EVERY possible side effect that could possibly occur.

Quality of life is more important than a little pain now and then. Constant pain and a disablement is not worth a little pain and a shit quality of life.
