So I decided to also upload my racial profiles of the different tribes from my book-in-progress Panerum. Skin pallets represent lightest and darkest skin tones usually seen for each tribe.
Other, non colour related racial features as well as some cultural ones will be listed below. It is possible for a character to be from one of these tribes and not strictly follow these traits, these are just the most common ones.
The tribes are as follows
Skosani- Tribe of the tundras and ice fields of the north, warm medium to dark brown skin, with either warm brown or hazel eyes, they have jet black hair which is thick and straight, and is traditionally kept very long. It is culturally acceptable to keep hair tied up in a high bun when working, but it is generally frowned on to not have it down in public if not working manual labour. They have narrow eyes, usually with softly angled eyebrows and small rounded ears. They have high cheekbones and squared jaws, with small rounded noses. They are very short people, most of which are between 4-5 feet tall. They are built very stockily, and you will rarely find a full grown man without facial hair, though it is kept short and neat.
Ealorn- The tribe of the northern evergreen forests and plains, pale skin, either green, blue, or hazel coloured eyes, with medium brown to auburn coloured hair, very curly and thick, usually kept fairly short, around shoulder length for both sexes, with the exception of guardswatch and other military men, who keep their hair cut short. They have almond shaped eyes, with short, thick lashes and thin angular eye brows. They have strong jaw lines and “average” noses, with medium sized rounded ears. They are the tallest of the tribes, with heights averaging 5’6”-6’ for women, and 6’-7’ for men. They tend to have wide shoulders, and fairly narrow hips. Usually only older men whose hair has already turned grey/white will wear any sort of facial hair.
Gakali- Tribe of the mountains and deciduous forests of the equator, caramel skin tone, with grey, blue, or golden eyes, they have straight, silky hair, usually blond, ginger, or red, though auburn and brown are not overly rare, usually shoulder to mid back length, usually braided into either a simple braid, or into fancy woven buns. It is not unusual for both sexes to have leaves and flowers braided into their hair (or stringed pearls for upper class). They have very angular, almost cat like eyes, with sharply angled eyebrows. They have narrow faces, with sharp chins and noses, and slightly pointed ears. . They tend to be very thin, yet are usually much stronger than they appear, and usually have very high metabolisms. Facial hair is common among merchant to lower classes, usually only on the chin, worn in one or two short braids.
Drothi- Tribe of the southern deserts and wastelands, olive skin tone, with grey-brown or golden eyes, they have straight, silky hair, in medium to dark brown, worn short by men, and long in women. They have large rounded eyes with thin eyebrows. They have fairly angular faces, with soft rounded noses, and pointed ears. They usually have an average build, with fairly curvy women. They are between 5’6”-6’6” on average. Facial hair is common among the warrior classes, who usually keep short goatees.
I will likely be doing a similar reference for each tribe’s traditional clothes as well, but that might be a while in the making. We’ll see
