62. Bury A Friend
Leaving Kyrgyzstan for Kazakhstan
We are leaving Kyrgyzstan for a too brief stay in Kazakhstan. Today was consumed with traveling to the border, crossing, and getting to the hotel. After arriving at the hotel we took old Russian 4WD vans to a remote lake where rising water has drowned some trees. For those of us that have traveled in the rockies and such dead trees in a lake are not unusual.
During the drive there the driver was flying down the rough rocky road. The vans have little suspension and a bare interior. We were hanging onto anything we could to keep from bouncing off the walls and ceiling.
We were supposed to start to the lake around 6 but we were late and the drivers were later, so it was after 7 before we started. So we were hustling to get back to the vans before it got too dark to see the trail.
