Any time she had let her guard down around someone new, her heart was inevitably shattered. While she had made a lot of mistakes in her relationships, particularly those with Mark and Derek, but she had had her heart stomped on unjustifiably as well. The worst part of whatever this was with Pete was that Sam had tried to stop it and she had blindly listened to her heart as was the advice of nearly everyone... Regardless of how ill-fated it seemed.

After a few more moments of deliberation, she realized there was no sense in trying to play it off. She was already here, heart wide open and ripe for breaking. ❝ Violet's back so that realistically, can only mean one thing. ❞

❝ Sounds like you should stay a few feet back, Mr. Infectious Disease. ❞ As if Cooper had much room to talk. Kids were little incubators for all illnesses and most that came to see him were sick, though the diseases weren't always communicable. Cooper had big plans for the weekend and he didn't need them ruined by catching whatever superbug Pete may have exposed himself too. Though, as he looked on toward his friend he realized that maybe the statement wasn't a general 'I've got the sniffles' type of confession.

            The coffee cup wasn´t something Addison SAW coming. Honestly, it might have hit her right in the head if Pete hadn´t SHOVED her right out of the way. Granted, she stumbled and barely managed to stay on her feet, but at least the cup broke against the opposite wall and not against her HEAD.

                 “What the…?” She frowned, looking around. “WHO the hell is throwing coffee cups around?”

Her response came with exhausted exhale of breath and am unimpressed, unwavering glare at the pavement in front of her. “Beats me.”

Charlotte observed the man up ahead of her from where she stood under her umbrella. She was just getting the mail, but it appeared the man had no motive for being outside.

She’d had those days. Days where you don’t care, or maybe even register that you’re standing in cold, pouring rain. Of course, in LA, those days did not often happen literally.

But then the man turned. And she knew that face. “Pete?” She questioned at a volume only she could hear. “Pete!” She shouted this time, making her way over.

It had been one long, long.. l o n g, day at the practice. One exchange of glances with Pete as he stepped into her office told her that they were in the same boat.

Addison sighed from her spot on the couch, flipping through a small stack of remaining paperwork. “I’ve just gotta finish this up,” she explained, motioning for him to take a seat next to her. They’d been living together for a month now; it made sense to carpool when they could, which was almost always.

As she neared the end of her last page, she felt the weight of something warm on her side.

Pete must have fallen asleep upright, having finally lost his balance and fallen onto Addison. She chuckled at the thought.

He looked so peaceful sleeping.

Screw paperwork.

“Hey, honey..” she whispered into Pete’s ear, combing her fingers through his short hair.
