Choosing my Top Surgeon
I’ve been agonizing over this. Checking out listings for a top surgeon from several different FTM web sites, then googling those surgeons. I’ve gone through their web sites, looked at every photo they had in their gallery, looked for guys who left reviews, blogs or vlogs about their experience with their surgeon. Then compared prices vs. distance. While I wasn’t actually looking for bargain deals, Choosing the most expensive or the a surgeon overseas was putting them out of reach. While on the flip side, one surgeon who sounded like he offered what I wanted and for far less than most other surgeons had my attention, he only has 2 photos in his gallery and neither was all that impressive.
Here’s my stick. I have been dis-functionally stuck in the wrong body all my life and that is finally going to change, but I don't want to get handed a dysfunctional body. I mean seriously, I want nipple sensation to go with my awesome manscaping chest. I’ve known plenty of girls who got boob jobs and surgeons manage to maintain their sensation even when they get nipple resizing or relocating. So why couldn't the same technique be used for us guys? The procedure is called ‘button hole’ and is only now starting to make its way into FTM top surgery, but majority of the doctors speak against it. Saying that the process of removing the fatty cells usually destroys the nerve bundle to the nipple or while trying to avoid damaging it, much of the fat cells are left behind and you can end up with moobs later. Okay so I get that, but maybe if plastic surgeons would stop trying to earn the world record for most surgeries in a day and take some care to be precise, this could be successful. This is my body and my money, I expect you to take damn good care of it.
This has eliminated a lot of doctors from my list. If they won’t even discuss it with me and try to push their cookie cutter one size fits all method on me, then I see no point to go to them. Even if I can’t get what I am hoping for because its just not guaranteed, I expect a doctor to understand my needs and not see me as a plastic doll or tell me the final outcome is aesthetics not function. Piss off, your nipples have sensation even if your prude wife doesn’t play with them asshole.
So I am down to the last couple of surgeon names on my list but I have dialed my attention on one. Dr. Sassani. He’s close by and an active advocate within the trans community. He provides more than just one type of top surgery and he has a huge gallery with a variety of shapes and sizes of guys, not just the gym guys. I especially liked this as it lets me know he is capable of more than the one size fits all method. The plus to this is he accepts insurance. It doesn’t mean the whole thing is covered and usually isn’t, but it helps. The vlogs I’ve seen have been good reviews of his work as well as bedside manner. While I am sure there is one out there who isn’t happy I haven’t found them yet. And those who had troubles got the post care they needed to get their chest corrected and healthy.
I don’t know if I will get the outcome I am hoping for, but I think I’m pretty sure I have made the right choice for me.
