when abortion is murder but murder is not #StopKillingAbortionDoctors
I was very glad that at yesterday’s counter-protest that we repeatedly chanted “Pro-Life, Pro-Killer! We Remember Dr. Tiller!” Posted @withrepost • @feministmidwife Ten years ago, the abortion community lost Dr. Tiller, an incredible provider, activist, and unwavering advocate for womxn’s rights and reproductive freedom, to a gunman who shot him as he ushered in his church. Ten years, and the National Abortion Federation report on “Anti-Abortion Violence and Disruption Statistics” is still frightening. Healthcare providers and our patients are targeted and attacked. The spectrum of hate is well known. And Dr. Tiller lost his life because of it. Grateful to have said his name to and remember him with a beloved colleague today. He is in our hearts. #stopthebans #abortionishealthcare #drgeorgetiller #rip #drtiller #abortionrights #mybodymyrights #mybodymychoice #prochoice #healthcare #womenshealth #womensrights #reproductivehealth #reproductivejustice #reproductiverights #abortionisnormal #righttochoose #stopthebans #1in4 #wewontgoback https://www.instagram.com/p/ByRMkmXgZmL/?igshid=1ie70z2okaxgz
RIP Dr. George Richard Tiller
August 8, 1941 – May 31, 2009
Dr. George Tiller was asked repeatedly by friends how he could continue his work in the face of the unending violence and legal harassment that he endured in the years leading up to his murder. His answer was always the same: "Where else can these women go?"
"Dr. Tiller listened to his patients, he trusted their decisions, and he knew that the people he was helping deserved his ear and his trust. He treated his patients like people (which really shouldn’t be such a radical position but, because of how anti-choicers have shaped the narrative around abortion, it is). He believed that those he helped were more important than the fetus inside of them. That is not a morally-bankrupt position. THAT IS THE MORAL SIDE."
In loving memory of Dr Tiller
