every single time i get away from the phandom, you write something new and drag me back kicking and screaming. i love love love how you perfectly capture the horror of every situation you write. off the top of my head, Exclusion Zone's creeping paranoia and the fear of illness in Dry Firing are pretty big highlights. even in stuff where nothing bad happens, like What Elephant, you manage to write this kind of anxiety that has me white-knuckling my pant leg while i read, even as you balance it with the sheer absurdity of the situation. you absolutely have a talent, and i wholeheartedly thank you (and curse you in equal measure) for every fic you write
You know! When it really comes down to it, the key is to write about anxieties anyone can understand
Dry Firing: fear of sickness
Exclusion Zone: fear of losing home
What Elephant: fear of social ostracism
Bury the Lede: fear your English teacher will find the dead body of your clone on the backroads of your town and you'll have to dodge his questions about "why do you have a clone?" and "why is he dead?" and "what do you mean the mayor is down bad for your mom?" while you both work to bury the body in a shallow grave
Alright thanks for letting me make that joke. Anyway!
I really do love writing horror where like, my goal is the shackle the reader directly to the character experiencing the horror. The camera is zoomed in a bit too close and it's uncomfortable and this is entirely intentional because these stories aren't written with a comfortable distance in mind.
