Usagi was surprised that Michiru had called. It was her greatest desire, of course, having sent so many notes to her house, so many gifts for M.A. and now the new baby that was coming along. She still had lunch with Haruka, sometimes, loved to see her baby and how she seemed to be calming and becoming happy, over th se past two years. But whenever they had spoken on the subject of Michiru, Haruka had smiled sadly and tried to change the subject, or suggest they buy a sweet.
People thought Usagi was stupid, and maybe she wasn’t as smart as everyone, but she knew people, and she didn’t neat Haruka to lay it out for her that even Haruka couldn’t make Michiru like Usagi. She was polite at group functions, after the first year, but the only thing she’d really said directly to Usagi in the last three years was the note telling her that their association was no longer required. She had been kind to Usagi at Rei’s wedding, so much so that Usagi had dared to hope, but it had shut off just as quickly, Usagi realizing all too late that it had been as much a wedding gift to Rei as the venue.
Then Mamoru had divorced her, and Michiru had taken her to lunch. Michiru had taken her hand, and taken her to a fancy place, and had trusted her. Michiru bought her a couch, and came to the housewarming of her new apartment.
And now, Michiru had called her, and asked her if she might meet with Usagi this afternoon, just the two of them.
