I just read through your pinned post and now I'm compelled to ask how you do your pixel style in Clip Studio? correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's SO COOL how you're able to achieve that style on a larger canvas LOL!! I've tried to mess around with my brush settings but for some reason I can never get it to be sharp enough haha
Ho hooo! I can help you with that!!
Pixel Art in Clip Studio Guide
Create your canvas! The trick is you need to work on a REALLY SMALL canvas to get a pixelated look. A 3DS screen is 320x240 pixels, so I make my canvas this size. If you need bigger pixels, work on an even smaller canvas!
1. Change your unit to pixels
2. Type in your canvas size
3. Click OK
Now we need to tell our brushes to keep their hard edges. I just change this on my pen and eraser because I don’t use much else when creating pixel art.
4. Click on your tool
5. Choose Tool Property
6. Choose the first setting under Anti-Aliasing
Proceed to draw whatever you like!! Blue volunteered, I swear!
Once you’re done we’ll need to export the art. There’s a few settings we’ll need to change, otherwise your pixels will be blurry like this:
Our device screens try to help terribly small images look better by smoothing out the pixels. There’s just not enough pixels for the screen to show you the image correctly. So we’ll add more!
7. Click Edit
8. Click Change Image Resolution
We’ll be scaling the image up! The goal is to get your pixel dimensions up to around 1000 pixels since that’s plenty of pixels for your modern screen to work with.
9. Change your scale (I stick with even numbers and typically go with 4. If you work on a smaller canvas, you’ll definitely need a higher number.)
10. Choose Hard Edges (nearest neighbor) for your interpolation method. (I can explain this in detail to those interested)
11. Click OK
Now you’re good to go to export your pixel art! You’ll be able to tell by checking your canvas size by your file name. You’re free to export your image how ever you like!
How to make a Signature Stamp that can Change Color in Clip Studio Paint
This is a long guide. Click on Keep Reading if you really wanna know.
Steps 1-9 are for people who just need to know how to set up the brush, but know enough brush settings to know what they want.
Steps 10-12 are for settings that I use for my signature.
1. On a square canvas, make your signature/stamp/design using the color black.
If your design has any kind of opacity/transparency, that detail will be kept (I’m demoing both). Make your square canvas at least 1000x1000 so your design can look nice at any brush size. Make your design take up as much space as on your canvas as possible.
2. Change your layer’s Expression Color property to Grey. This allows for transparency to be kept.
3. The layer with your design on it needs to be selected. It should show the grey expression info on the layer (in red above). If you’re working on multiple layers you’ll need to merge them to one.
4. You need to register your design as a material so it can be used as a brush tip. Click Edit > Register Materials > Image…
5. Name your material (otherwise it will be your layer name). Check the box “Use for brush tip shape”. Choose your save location. I keep mine in the brush category for simplicity. Click OK when you’re done.
6. Time to create your brush that will use your design. Choose ANY tool category (pen, brush, decoration, etc). I’m using Pen. Click on the three lines and choose “Create custom sub tool…”
7. Name your sub tool. Optionally, you can change the tool icon. There is a stamp option, but I’m using the marker one to make this simple. Click OK when you’re done.
8. Go to Brush tip, change the Tip shape to Material, click on the text that says “Click here and add tip shape”.
9. Type in the name you gave your material in the search bar, select the material, click OK.
If you know how to use Clip Studio’s brush settings, the settings from here on can act as suggestions. The settings below are for signatures or things like signatures.
10. This brush needs to stamp your design far apart at full opacity at the size you choose.
First, the brush density setting controls how opaque/solid your brush is when you use it. Since you want it opaque all the time (until you change your opacity settings), you’ll change the brush density setting to use NO pen pressure (all boxes unchecked).
11. In Brush Size, change the Brush Size setting to use NO pen pressure (all boxes unchecked).
12. In Stroke, in Gap settings choose the single dot and change the number from 10 to 150 (or whatever size keeps your design from overlapping itself).
You're DONE! Make the signature as big as you need and use it!
