a beautiful noise
Daisy tip-toes into the kitchen of her and Daniel’s apartment, careful not to wake Daniel, who fell asleep on the couch; she didn’t have the heart to wake him. It only furthers Daisy’s claims that he is just such an old man, and she also couldn’t pass up the opportunity to tease him. She wraps her arms around herself, wishing she’d put on something more than Daniel’s most well-worn T-shirt, and a pair of underwear. She grabs a glass from the cabinets, and fills it up with water. Outside, the wind rushes, and rain hits the windows, creating that soothing noise that happens when it pours.
“Daisy?” A raspy voice calls from the couch.
Daisy cringes, “Did I wake you?” Daniel heaves himself up, shuffling to the kitchen.
“No,” he rubs his eyes, “it was the weather. Is that my shirt?”
“It is,” Daisy shrugs, taking a sip of water.
“It looks good on you,” Daniel compliments his girlfriend.
Daisy grins, “Thank you.” She accepts the compliment so quietly, if Daniel hadn’t been so close to her, he wouldn’t have heard it. Daisy places her glass on the counter. Daniel brings his arms around her, pulling her close to him. Daisy relaxes into the embrace. She adores the feeling of his body against hers, warming her and keeping her feeling safe. She was a strong woman, who could protect herself against the fiercest of foes, but sometimes she needed someone to pick her back up. Or to warm her body with theirs when the apartment got particularly cool.
“Your hands are freezing. I can feel it through my shirt,” Daniel laughs, his chest vibrating against Daisy’s head.
“Sorry,” she pulls away sheepishly, but Daniel grabs one of her hands, the other going around her waist. “What’re you doing?”
“Where’s your cellular phone?”
“My-? My cell phone, Danny.”
“Right. Where is it?”
“In our room,” Daisy tells him, confusion plastered across her face. Daniel puts a finger up to her, before fetching the phone. He taps it a few times before a familiar tune starts playing.
“This song is definitely younger than you,” Daisy is taken aback. Daniel grabs her hand again, bringing it up near her shoulder, and places his other hand on her lower back, holding her close to him.
“It is. I like it though. It reminds me of you,” Daniel’s eyes sparkle at her. Daisy grins.
“Thanks,” she rolls her eyes at the sappy comment. Daniel begins to sway them to the beat of the song. Daisy rests her head against his chest. “Is your inner 1950’s loving this?”
“You love it too,” Daniel tells her. Daisy has no words to deny it. Instead, she keeps swaying in his arms listening to the rainfall. It feels nice.
