Volume 13
( @hardheadedbighearted )
Dewey was...conflicted.
On the one hand, it’d been a while since he’d gone on a proper McDuck-family-style adventure. Nothing related to the Cities or Salem or Ozma or anything like that; just a fun adventure seeking out some magical something-or-other.
Heck, it was the first time in a while him and Webby got to do something one-on-one together! Well, not completely one-on-one; it was more than just the two of them joining Della and Scrooge as they soared through the skies.
But as for the kids in the manor, it was just the two of them! Huey was spending the beginning of the day with Boyd and Louie had made plans with Oscar. And while he’d sworn that the two of them were just going to spend their time watching TV, Dewey had a hunch there was more to their plans than Louie was going to tell them.
Either way, it was just him and Webby in terms of household kids, going on their first solo adventure in a while! He should’ve been a-hundred-and-ten percent invested in this adventure!
Unfortunately, there was one thing keeping his interest at a solid seventy-percent and preventing it from rising any further.
“Mom, can’t we fly any faster?” he griped, sinking lower in his seat. “If we don’t make it back in time for the Battle of the Bands, then Whitley and I are gonna be disqualified!”
Della looked back at him from the pilot’s seat. “Don’t worry, kiddo,” she assured him. “I’ll make sure you’re back in time to compete, even if I have to fly like Launchpad and yell at the contest staff like Donald to do it!”

( @hardheadedbighearted, for Jaune)
“Oh, did you have to bring your knife?”
Isaac gave his brother a flat look. “You brought yours.”
“A pocketknife used for camping and other related activities is far different than a switchblade that I know you’ve used for...non-camping-related activities, Isaac!” David pointed out. “Besides, you know if his mother sees you with that, she’ll be a lot less inclined to let him spend the day with us.”
With an annoyed sigh, Isaac flipped the blade back into the knife and tucked it into his pocket. “Just making sure, you both know he’s not a little kid anymore, right? He’s not gonna...I don’t know, faint at the sight of a sharpened blade, or whatever.”
“I’m aware of that!” David said, expression falling for a moment. “Even if it’s so hard to imagine. It feels like only yesterday we were meeting that soft, little bundle of fur for the first time in the hospital!”
“Psh, yeah, how’d’you think my old ass is feeling over here?” Isaac asked, before he reached over to pull the other man into a headlock. “I remember when I was meeting this bundle of fur for the first time in the hospital!”
David laughed and pushed him back. “Hey, come on now, you’re barely older than I am!”
“I still remember!”
With another laugh, David straightened himself out. “Well, regardless, we should probably stop chatting for now and actually get to the front door. Otherwise we won’t get to actually see the grown-up bundle of fur we both met in the hospital!”
“Eh, with all the kids in the house, they’re bound to have noticed we were here by this point,” Isaac pointed out in return. “And if they haven’t...well, what’s the rush?”
They came to a stop in front of the door, and Isaac leaned against the side of the house. “Not really in much of a mood to have Jaune’s folks chew our ear off about how little we visit the squirt anymore,” he said. “I mean, it’s not like we don’t have jobs or lives of our own or anything like that. Nah, we just refuse to visit simply because we hate him. That’s the logical conclusion, right?”
And now it was David’s turn to give his brother a flat look. “While I don’t disagree with you about not preferring to hear a lecture about how we could stand to visit our brother a little more, I can understand her point of view about us not setting aside enough time for our visits.”
“Yeah, well, unless you wanna spill the beans about my line of work, she’s gonna have to deal with it.”
David gave him another Look, before pressing his finger to the doorbell. “Be nice, please. It won’t be for long, and afterwards, we’ll get to spend all day with Jaune! Won’t that be fun?”
“I’ll be on my best behavior.”

certifiedwerewolf asked:
The morning after the Battle of the Bands, Gyro will come into the living room to find Mercury and Jaune on the couch together. Judging by Jaune's state of half-undress and the spare pillow and blanket from Mercury and Emerald's room, it is readily assumed that he crashed on their couch the night before, though the reason for this is not as readily available.
When Gyro comes in on them, Mercury will be handing Jaune his guitar- not his treasured electric or his best beloved acoustic, his most prized possessions, but a slightly-worn acoustic that he acquired some months ago upon realizing that "here, I'll show you-" is such a wonderful way to flirt when one is a musician (Gyro will have the context for this, though it is up in the air whether he will recognize which instrument is which).
The conversation he overhears as the guitar is passed over will go as thus:
"So you mean to tell me that this whole time you could play, and you never told me?"
"Mm. Yeah. I used to bring my guitar around all the time, but Weiss put a moratorium on that before you starting coming around, so I guess it never came up."
(As he says this, he is adjusting his hold on the guitar, running fingers over the strings to test their tension, plucking softly to test the guitar's tuning- unnecessary, as Mercury keeps all of his instruments, even those not kept for his own use, in excellent condition.)
"Tch, that's dumb. What does she get to say about it anyway? Fuck her."
"Yes, I was trying to," Jaune says absently, not looking away from his careful examination. "That was the problem."
This admission, or perhaps just the casualness of it, is enough to get a startled burst of laughter out of Mercury, a rare, genuine laugh, one deep and open-throated and utterly delighted. Jaune still doesn't look up from his work at this, but anyone facing him at the right angle would be able to see the pleased smile he directs to the guitar in his hands.
Gyro’s head was still pounding as a result of the concert from the previous evening (turns out when you’re Potentially Forty and also Gyro In General, a loud, music arena followed by a busy party at a bar were a terrible combination), and he’d originally been trudging down to the kitchen like the living dead.
However, the duo situated on the couch (one that was so clearly flirting with one another, and conversing in such a way that seemed relatively free of stress) brought a tired smile to Gyro’s face as he came to a stop by the couch. One that only widened as he heard Mercury let out a laugh of confirmation; it was so genuinely happy, a surprising relief after the past few weeks.
“I wasn’t aware we had a guest staying over last night,” Gyro said, too tired to pretend he was mildly annoyed by this. “Then again, I did pass out as soon as I laid down, so the apartment could’ve blown up and I would’ve never known.”
I was listening to The Daughter of the Fish and the Ram by The Scary Jokes and the idea hit me
I love the DTLS au so I’m making a three part comic with the second half of the song. This is part one :D I know it might be hard to see, so I’ll let you know that Boyd is reading The Marvelous Land of Oz!

Every time Ozma gazes wistfully at Salem’s tower he’s actually gazing at her titty window
God, one of these days I WILL get back to DTLS AU. I love it so so much, you guys don't even know. A DT17/RWBY crossover, where the latter are a bunch of furries from a city near Duckburg, all started because Roman and I wanted to make Boyd and James friends. Centuries-long drama between immortal magical chickens. Gyro loses an arm (thanks to Akita) and dates a werewolf. Fenton kills a woman to protect his fiancé and future father-in-law. Dewey and Whitley win a battle of the bands while the former has a swordfight with Don Karnage and the latter sings 'I Need A Hero'. Skittles exists and we're all so much better off for it.

@hardheadedbighearted
It was about a week after the trip when Boyd offhandedly mentioned to Dr. Ironwoof that he still had a bit more Christmas shopping to finish up. And when his friend had brought up how he still had some to do of his own, plans were made to spend the day doing...well, just that!
Boyd was especially excited about spending the day with Dr. Ironwoof. It felt like with everything that had been happening as of late, spending one-on-one time with one of his oldest Amity buddies (not THE oldest; he’d befriended Winter first!) was growing to be more and more of a rarity.
So plans were set and Boyd set out for the manor pretty early, to maximize the amount of time they’d get to spend together. Although he couldn’t resist making the trip via his glider; that was another thing he didn’t get to do as often anymore.
It was funny, how much had changed over the last few years. Or even over the last year alone! About a year ago, Dr. Gearloose was recovering from losing his arm. And about two years ago, Fenton and Clover had only just hooked up!
No Skittles, or May and June. Hazel, Mercury, and Emerald were all still on Salem’s side, and Roman and Neo were too as far as anyone was concerned. Doofus didn’t talk to him as often as he did now, and his and Dr. Gearloose’s relationship was still so strained. The Cities and Duckburg groups were barely intertwined, with only him as one of the few threads connecting everyone.
It really was funny how quickly time flied by, and how much could change as it did.
He touched down on the grass, immediately shifting the glider into wand mode and tucking it into his little pant loop before hurrying to the front door and knocking excitedly.
