I've gotten to 11% progress on my story and im working consistently [only three days but thats a lot for a blitzy!] and im not going full force so i dont burn out like i usually do and im so proud of myself!!!!
im really excited about my silly little story I keep thinking of little moments I can add that are great character moments and i am just... aaaaaa im making a thing and i have so many of the pieces for it instead of the usual like, three and im... idk man its so exciting to be working on a silly thing and not feel super bad about it and its so weird seeing it come to life? I was really worried about not having enough to write while i try and do this for NaNo but honestly I am three days in and have only touched on some of the beginning and while the middle is pretty fuzzy for me I have so many parts I could work on and theres some parts in particular I think will be pretty long and it just. Seems so much more doable than a story ever seemed.
The power of breaking things into chunks i suppose!
Instead of working on my active project i am working on mini prequel stuff for a different project but thats okay im practicing new writing practices that will teach me new ways of working or whatever I'm telling myself I just wanted to put bears into another different spooky situation
Tumblr is going to RUIN the quality but I wound up doing this. I wanted to make a repeating vector with some of the tree and plant stamp brushes I had on CSP and wound up making this.
It's mostly blues, with the moon and stars being either a pen tool on a large setting or another stamp, laid over themselves and blurred to give a glow. The clouds were done with a cloud brush, and the 'grass' was a tree stamp made really small and scribbled over the ground until it looked grassy enough.
This was fun, I never do backgrounds, I always draw people, sometimes cats, so this was really fun to do!
I'm proud of this one, I may set it as my Desktop Background.
Once Billy is has healed after the riot, Grumpy takes him with him on a friendship mission to [whatever town boyd and penny would spend most of their time in in DTLS i dont remember please fill in this blank for me <3 ][emcee note: Duckburg more likely. The Cities is just as weird but its weird is more insular and tends to be connected to Ozma and Salem's divorce proceedings more often than not.]. Billy gets the opportunity to explore a town with his best friend, and then they run into Boyd and Penny and then they're all friends! :D Maybe Grumpy gets them all ice cream so they have a snack while they talk and meet and Boyd and Penny can show them around, and they can all learn about each others worlds! Maybe they can all work on friendship missions together too, because helping people rocks
Like with Billy for example, hes been through so much and now that he's healing from it he has people there to care for and help him deal with it, as well as an opportunity to make not only new friends but make friends who are not related in any way to what he had been through previously. I think thats really important, to be able to have a new part of your life. And Billy is such a kind hearted guy and I think he'd be really interested in anything that Boyd and Penny want to share with him. Books, music, anything. I feel like he was sheltered growing up and then he was sold into experimentation so ya know, there is are so many new worlds for him to be exposed to now, and he'd love every second of it.
And Grumpy Bear is used to meeting new people but these two are different. Is it because they are Definitely Real People? Maybe (and he is a mechanic so if anything goes wrong with them he can probably help). But I think there is just something about their personalities that would draw Grumpy to them a bit more, and while he'd be his usual serious closed off self I bet Boyd and Penny could get him to open up when he's ready. It'd be nice for Grumpy to have friends who aren't care bears. And while he can't fly like Boyd, he does have access to cloud cars or balloons or whatever he'd need to keep up with him!
Boyd and Penny could go to Care-A-Lot! I know Duckburg and Tolkyolk and The Cities have lots of cool places but as far as I know they don't have cloud castles. Imagine being able to walk on clouds, and seeing a big castle, or a rainbow fountain, or being able to play games with literal wishing stars! That's some stuff that can usually only happen in dreams. I think it'd be quite the experience.
IDK I just think they would all have so much fun just learning about one another and maybe they could have little adventures in each of their cities or something! [for Grumpy's place maybe they could all go to the Forest of Feelings and visit the cousins! That's a nice trip, they'd get to ride in a boat] Friendship missions would be a lot better with new friends with new experiences too. I think with the four of them together, they'd be unstoppable no matter what got in their way!
Look out Grimm, look out Akita, look out No Heart, Team Friendship Wins is here!!!!!
Also hehe a bunch of little guys and a tall guy, or hehe a bunch of happy friends and then a grumpy one, fun fun
I love DTLS and I love these two Definitely Real Friends!!! I think robot kids being friends rocks this is seriously one of the things that made me really excited to start DTLS, a favorite character making a new friend who is just as fun!! They have similar vibes a lot and I think they suit each other very well!
Robot kids of all time. The main mascots of the artificial kids poll. In the DTLS AU, Boyd even plays a part in getting Penny functional and then they're BUDDIES 🥺🥺🥺 They're both so good and sweet and would be such wonderful friends!!
Billy and Grumpy:
These two are in a fic im working on [described vaguely in the gentle heart chris submission] and man these two are gonna be so huge im so excited. Grumpy Bear saw this kid who had been sold into experimentation by his mother and went "welp that one is mine." Billy was trapped in a sort of 'bubble' with a ton of tubes connected to his body, and the only way to stop the nanobot ghost he was possessing/being possessed by [its complicated] was to turn off his life support and Grumpy went mmm no fuck that I'm going to figure out a different way. And then he figured out the different way WHILE the ghost was trying to kill him!! And then when Billy was in a coma after the experience Grumpy waited by his bed for him to wake up the entire time so he wouldn't be alone in a new place that he didn't know after having been tortured for years.
And they just click immediately, Grumpy likes him and Billy likes that he says his thoughts and is willing to be openly unhappy, that he doesn't have to hide things. Grumpy likes re-introducing him to 'regular' life and Billy is so excited by the world, I think that makes Grumpy feel excited himself, which is kind of a big deal for him! I think Billy likes Grumpy a lot because he was the first one he saw when he woke up so its a special feeling. The first one he saw, and the first one to try and save him, and someone who was honest with him about what had happened and what he [Billy] had done during the riots. It's a completely different reality than what he had been living in just weeks prior and…. :D theyre not super similar and I think that's a fun dynamic also!
(Emcee note: Because DTLS takes place in the Ducktales universe, all RWBY characters are anthro animals, which is why Penny is depicted here as a red panda.)
If they can't tie I'd like Billy and Grumpy to move on if only because I've been working on their stories since 2018 and theyre so important to me BUT a tie would be so fun!!! They'd be great friends!!
I don't know how many friends Billy had before he was sold to Murkoff but this way he could get more nice friends!! Grumpy having some non-Care Bear friends could help him open up a bit, and he is a mechanic so if anything goes wrong with our Definitely Real Friends' systems he could probably help! Boyd and Penny both like learning about new things and this would open up so many possibilities, I bet they've never been to a cloud castle before, that sounds pretty cool. It'd be a whole new world for all of them I think.
I dunno I just think they're all neat they would all have so much fun together, isn't that the best part?
Also Billy is kinda tall so he can reach things off high shelves for them (I know Boyd can fly but shhhh)
aaa okay so this is from a fic im writing, im not too far in it yet but plot [which is relevant to this] is the Care Bears go to Mount Massive Asylum during the riot to try and help all the patients escape instead of them getting killed [by their own hands or the soldiers sent in by the people running the place]. and then the care bears are helping them heal from their trauma and all that and they all become one big family.
These two are in a fic im working on [described vaguely in the gentle heart chris submission {emcee note: included the relevant bit above}] and man these two are gonna be so huge im so excited. Grumpy Bear saw this kid who had been sold into experimentation by his mother and went "welp that one is mine." Rook and Prowl:
I created a fanfiction story called "For The Want of a Smoothie" that has interaction with these two. Like any start of a crossover there distressful of each other and don't get along. But eventually they come to be great friends.
Both TFA Prowl and Rook Blonko are athletic, agile, ninja like warriors.
TFA Prowl is also a huge fan of cats and feline which Rook closely resembles.
I don't have a lot to add because I think I did a good job rambling here but!
For Billy and Grumpy; I updated the fic today and the most recent chapter has a lot of them interacting, in fact it starts with it!
[if you look at the fic i advise taking the tagged warnings seriously, but also I'm not far enough for most of them to really apply yet and each chapter has its own specific warnings put before they start just in case! Most recent chapter does not have any warnings itself.]
I'm gonna copy paste their parts together under a read more in case you don't wanna go read all that but still wanna see them interact, its their first time really interacting since Billy just woke up!
Anyway have an edit and a friend's sketch hehe
" Billy’s eyes fluttered open.
The first thing he sees is white. For a moment, he thought that he was still at Mount Massive. Then all of his senses rushed back into him, overwhelming his very being. Yet, he felt lighter than he had in a long time.
Billy stared straight ahead. The walls were white, the floors were just as lacking in color as anywhere else around him. He only turned his head a little to look around. He felt frozen in time, like moving would cause the rest of the world to catch up to him, and this select moment of peace would crumble in an instant.
The air smelled startlingly clean. It’s strange, his mind was too used to everything smelling and tasting of metal. But it was clean. Mount Massive was clean when he was first brought there. It seemed so, anyway. The system was clean until he became a part of it, and even then, he didn’t see the light until the Walrider connected with his mind.
The Walrider.
Where was it? He couldn’t hear it in his head, even if he closed his eyes and focused as hard as he could. Billy did so anyway, in hopes of seeing something, anything that could tell him where he was without disrupting the silence. He didn’t get the answers he wanted. He did, however, hear something else. A voice in the distance, a deep whisper. The words were garbled. There was still no rusty smell, but his head felt heavier. When he opened his eyes, the room was still blank. There was no one speaking, no one he could see at least. His body was light again.
He looked around once more, allowing himself to turn his head a bit further. It was then that he noticed the strange creature laying beside him. It looked like a teddy bear, but it was blue, and as far as Billy knew, bears didn’t come in shades of blue. Only whites and browns and blacks and the occasional red. It wasn’t a toy; the bear’s body moved up and down as it breathed. Billy leaned over to try and get a better look at him, and saw it was holding a little toy star. He felt something inside of him relax. It wasn’t a guard or anything like that. Guards couldn’t sleep with toys. They’d be too busy guarding, or yelling, or whatever else they did.
Billy moved over in the bed, away from the bear. Maybe he’d taken up too much room, and that’s why he wasn’t under the covers like Billy was. It was rude to take up the whole bed. Billy didn’t know this bear, but he didn’t want to be rude. His mama didn’t raise him that way.
The covers were soft and cloudy, like everything else in the room. Did they not have blankets here, or were they unsure of what kind he’d like? It was strange to him. He was half-sure this wasn’t a dream because his dreams were never this slow. His dreams were running, and chasing, and shouting and jumping and splashing and everything else in the world. Small memories danced around his head. Billy winced. His head throbbed, and then the pain subsided. He tried to think of what he was remembering only a moment before, but the thoughts were blurry and it made his head hurt, so he stopped. Was he remembering a dream? No, he could have sworn it was real. He was floating, he was chasing without running, he could reach so far, and he no longer had hands but claws…
Oh, that wasn’t him, was it? Well, it was, but it was the Walrider too. It was him and the Walrider and whatever they became together. He wasn’t entirely sure who did what, now that he thought of it. They hadn’t gotten much time to practice. They had joined together and Billy’s mind let it move however it wanted to, and it dug itself inside every brain cell and merged with his very being.
And then, there was a point where it was ripped away. And Billy remembered the feeling of air being ripped out from him, like falling down a long flight of stairs. But instead of getting back up and shaking the dust off himself, he never got up again. Here he was, though. Sitting in a bed with a blue bear and certainly thinking thoughts. Even if this was a dream, he was thinking thoughts.
Billy never tried waking up the bear. In all honesty, the thought never occurred to him. He was too busy trying to find the memories that rested ever so close to the front of his mind to notice when Grumpy Bear started to wake up. He didn’t even feel that he was being stared at. He only noticed when Grumpy spoke.
“Billy?” Grumpy stared at him with wide eyes. The boy he had been waiting on for so long was sitting up right in front of him. He wasn’t sure if he would ever wake up, much less sit up so soon.
But Billy was sitting, and was looking right back at him. “That’s me,” he said. “And who’re you?” He didn’t need to know where he was quite yet. The first thing to do in a conversation with someone new is introduce yourself, and ask who the other is, and then he could ask whatever else he needed.
“Me? Oh, I’m Grumpy Bear.” He tried not to sound too amazed. He wasn’t sure what Billy remembered, and he didn’t want to overwhelm him. Grumpy could feel his heart beating faster than it had in a long time. “Are you feeling alright?”
Billy nodded in response. He felt… normal. His body felt well rested, if not a little worn out, and his eyes didn’t hurt. He could see well, his thoughts weren’t all over the place, his insides felt more regular than irregular. So, with all that in mind, he decided he was definitely feeling alright. “I’m not at Mount Massive anymore, am I?”
Grumpy shook his head. He was sitting now, which allowed Billy to get a better look at the picture on the bear’s stomach. “No. We are in a place called Care-A-Lot. It’s where us Care Bears live. We brought you here to keep you safe, and take care of you. You haven’t been awake for a few weeks now.” When Billy simply nodded in response and didn’t ask anything else, Grumpy chose to stay quiet as well. He didn’t want to offer up any information Billy wasn’t ready to hear.
Billy stared at the storm cloud, brows furrowed. Something occurred to him. After a few moments, Billy spoke. “We tried to tear you to pieces.”
“Yeah, you did.”
“I’m sorry about that.”
“I know. I forgive you.”
Neither was sure of what to say after that. Grumpy Bear put the star plush onto Billy’s lap, and watched him hold it in his hands. Grumpy wanted to feel relieved. He knew he should feel relieved. But he couldn’t. Not yet. Dread bubbled in his stomach. What was going to happen when Billy and Miles inevitably met? What would the Walrider do? Is Billy actually alright now, or is this the calm before he crashes and dies suddenly? What does he remember? He remembered something, obviously, but when he remembers more, how distressed will he be? How do you comfort someone about actions they didn’t take, but were technically still a part of? Would he ever be okay?
Well, Billy seemed fine enough at the moment. He was smiling at the star in his hands. It was soft and well loved. There were a few spots where the stuffing wasn’t even with the rest of the plush. He liked it. He hadn’t had anything like this in a long time, and it made him feel happy that someone else could still have something they loved so much for so long. Billy handed the star back to Grumpy. He felt settled in enough to this new scenario that he was ready to move onto the next part of whatever the plan for him was. No point in postponing it. “Grumpy, am I stuck in this bed?”
The bear shook his head. “Do you feel like you can walk?”
“I don’t see why I couldn’t.” Grumpy Bear slid off the bed and stepped aside, allowing Billy to get out onto the same side. Billy stretched, first reaching his arms up and going onto his tiptoes, and then stretching out his legs individually, and finally his back. His legs wobbled. He hoped Grumpy wouldn’t notice. He kept a hand on the wall, just in case. “Can I take a look around?”
Grumpy was already heading towards the door. “Sure. I’ll introduce you to everyone. We’ve been wanting to meet you.” "
~~~~~~~
When Billy did not come out for dinner, Grumpy Bear knocked on his door. It took a few moments before the door opened, buy Grumpy was still able to go inside.
He looked at Billy with concern. “I didn’t see you out there, are you okay?” he asked. He had expected to see Billy eating happily with everyone else, talking away as if he hadn’t been stuck in his room. Instead he had decided to stay stuck in his room.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” Billy sat on his bed, and patted the spot next to him. Grumpy quickly filled that spot. “I just didn’t want to go out there with everyone else. It’s a lot more overwhelming than I thought it’d be. I don’t see how this should be any different than leaving my cell at Mount Massive.”
“I can bring you some food,” Grumpy said.
“Thanks, Grumpy Bear.” They sat in silence. Billy stared down at his lap, and Grumpy watched his face. When Grumpy put his paw on his leg, Billy gained the strength to speak again. “They all look up to me and I haven't the faintest idea why.”
Ah, that would be a bit heavy on someone fresh to the world again, wouldn’t it? Especially after all that. “When things are bad, people like to gravitate to someone or something to look to. It gives them hope. That’s why some people follow Martin, right? It makes sense to them and makes them feel better.”
Billy thought about this for a moment. “I make them feel better? Without really doing anything?”
“Yeah! I mean, I think so. You were going through all that with them but making better progress. You were proof it couldn’t go on forever.” Grumpy wasn’t entirely sure about what he was saying, but he knew he wasn’t lying, so whatever decided to leave his mouth was probably okay.
“Yeah. Couldn’t go on forever.”
“And you weren’t mean to anybody, you weren’t lashing out. You were just as kind as you’ve always been.”
“You’re startin to assume things,” Billy said.
Grumpy scrunched up his face. “Are you saying I’m wrong?”
Billy laughed. “No, no! Stop makin’ that face at me.” He shrugged. “I guess I shouldn’t worry too much.”
“If they’re making you uncomfortable, I can talk to them.” Grumpy looked at him seriously. “It’s no trouble at all, I’ll just--” He was interrupted by the sound of a stomach growling. The pair stared at one another, and then burst out into laughter. “I’ll just go bring you some dinner.” He slid off the bed and made his way towards the door. He turned back to look at Billy. “If you need anything, don’t be scared to ask us. Friends help friends.”
I need to finish this chapter before the polls drop tomorrow but i did not get to work on it for more than an hour today [partially my own fault oops] and i work tomorrow so uhhh we're gonna see how this works out!
maybe being stressed out by the pressure I have put on myself will make me magically create 2000 words or something, crazier things have happened
