sorry if this is a silly question/one you’ve answered before, but what’s your method for taking screenshots? do you pause and arrange the sims/poses during gameplay? do you play for a while and then choreograph the screenshots afterwards? i like the idea of cataloguing my gameplay more, but the times that i’ve tried taking even just basic screenshots i was so stressed about making them Look Good™️ that i didn’t have fun playing.

It’s not a dumb question! Since I started storytelling, I realized that just gameplay isn’t enough for me, but doing only storytelling ends up burning me out because I tend to push myself too hard. So I do a mix of both!

Like I said before, I don’t play in different saves, I do the gameplay and storytelling in the same save. I start playing with some idea in mind, so I already have the poses saved beforehand. I don’t play unless I know what I’m going to do in the game and with which sim. That way I already have something planned, then it depends on the game whether things go how I want or not. If they don’t, I just move on to something else and the next day I look for the poses I need (or make them 💀). Honestly, I don’t always take the screenshots in chronological order. To give you an idea, I took the screenshots of Soren and Duncan in Mourningvale before the scene where Duncan suggests going to Mourningvale after reading the book, because I was working on the aspiration.

You don’t have to take “basic screenshots” if you don’t want to. I don’t do that either. I play, then I look for my poses and work on my scene after the gameplay with an idea already in mind because I saw what happened during gameplay. There isn’t a set order or a “right” way to play. My recommendation would be to do it at your own pace and however you want, as long as you don’t pressure yourself. You don’t have to take the best screenshots or come up with the best story in the world. Just have fun. I enjoy working on the screenshot scenes and the gameplay too, but that’s MY way of playing, it doesn’t have to be yours. Find what you like and how you like it, and stick with that!
