@jermyn.street was historically the street where London's greatest artists lived. In the 1600's both #SirPeterLely & #godfreykneller - the first barronet - lived there. It was here Sir Peter Lely painted the famous image of the #DuchessofRichmond as #Britannia & at 59 Jermyn St in what remains Londons oldest private gallery still trading & custom built to purpose is the @weissgallery - my favourite gallery anywhere in the world - there is always a magnificent collection of oldmasters for sale & one can disappear into history through the faces of these priceless works. Nothing evokes the energy & spirit of an era more than a portrait painting in that time (at The Weiss Gallery)
