Duckis: Lick It Up (2020)

A bird on the street told me that Duckis shared a bill with Uniform and they got our attention. One of Tallahassee’s newest post-punk / d.i.y. outfits threw their hat on the stage (or living room if you seen their live videos online) last ear with a rough abrasive-sounding five-song demo sprayed with reverb, course riffs, and brash drums buzzing all over the place. Vocalist Dorie S.’ brought plenty of riot-grrl screaming and quivering which some also felt sounded with some unintentional nervousness. For Duckis’ Lick It Up, they re-done all their demo tracks into something that’s sounds smoother, firmer, and more in control, plus five new songs showing Duckis’ branching out to more traditional punk and other speeds while maintaining their post-punk / d.i.y. quality. Now to decide what goes into our Summer Omega WUSB volume.
