Fooduary 2026: Argentina Alfajor
Alfajores are delicious dulce de leche-cookie sandwich, they were invented in Spain, but became super popular in South America and now most South American countries have their own variation. The Argentina (Santa Fe) Alfajores, invented around 1851, are made of round cookies of toasted dough filled with dulce de leche and topped with meringue icing.
I based this illustration on a combination of the women's fashion at the time of the gauchos and photos of samba dancers (hence the handkerchief tucked into her waistband.)
