It only took her a minute to hit the Metro system and jump onto the tracks. She knew a place she could hide out for a while. That should be good enough to keep the sword safe. It was an old alcove, part of the ruins under the city from ages gone by. No one knew about this place. She’d been playing down here since she was a kid, ever since the voices told her this place was here. She wriggled into the small opening and grabbed the flashlight she kept there, turning it on. The room was, thankfully, empty. ::I wouldn’t steer you wrong, Alice, you know that.:: ::Thank you.:: She heard footsteps coming then and whirled, a physical and magical shield snapping into place around her. She was half tempted to draw the sword, but she had no idea how to use it. ::Here, little one, let me.:: She surrendered herself to her Great Aunt so many times removed.

Théo cursed as the house shook again. He was taking the stairs three at a time in his haste to get to the library. He had to get the sword before they got here. He knew they would come for the sword. It was powerful, very powerful. Another shake and he only barely caught himself to keep from falling down the stairs. They were getting closer. Damn, damn and double damn. “Papa, I have it!” That was his daughter. She came running towards him, sword sheathed at her side. “Take it, run, get out, do whatever you can. Don’t let them get it, Alice.” He passed a hand over the sheath and blue light sunk into it. “There, they shouldn’t be able find it now.” “Thank you, Papa.” Another shake. “Stay safe.” “I will.” With that, she ran down the stairs, vaulting the last four steps and sprinted out the door.
