This might end up being a stupid question but like. As a queer leftist that lives in the Bible Belt, I wanna ask the northern leftists/liberals/democrats/whatever idgaf something
So like. In the south, a lot of our republicans and conservatives and right-leaning people are more left than they or other people think. Like A LOT of republicans I've talked to agree on left-leaning talking points(like how shitty healthcare companies are and how the economy and big companies are blatatantly exploitive for example), but the difference comes from how they want to solve them. Which I guess is kinda obvious, that's pretty much just politics in general, but tbh I'm rambling and reiterating shit here.
Their beliefs and bigotry more so just come from a combination of their surroundings all consisting of twisted/manipulated Christian rhetoric + listening to republican hate-mongering and the urge to find someone to blame for everything. So rather than go for the people in power or those actually at fault, they go for minorities and xenophobia and default their trust into bigoted authorities that don't actually have their interests in mind.
Which lemme make it clear, I'm not trying to make that sound sympathetic or anything; what I'm trying to say is there is a fundamental system in place that raises children into adults with conservative-republican values. I dunno if the same can be said for more blue leaning states, but at the very least it's much more prevalent in the south.
Which is actually what I kinda wanna ask: What exactly are blue-state conservatives/republicans like?? Where do they come from and why do they even have the ideals that they do? Like obviously I know there's gonna be a certain amount of conservative ideals everywhere no matter the state, this is the U.S. after all. But I wanna know where those thoughts are actually coming from in states that aren't as dependent on Christianity and southern fuckery. And I want genuine answers too, not just "because they're bad people" or things like that.
