I feel like people just don't understand the real world (or the books) when they bash Dumbledore. "He should've turned away Snape because it was pretend loyalty!" Uh, what. That's not what people do in the middle of a war. Sure, be prepared for betrayal but why would you turn down a distraught Death Eater looking to switch sides for WHATEVER reason? Some of his best intel came from Snape, and even if it hadn't...yes, let's ignore any advantage while real people are dying and entire families are getting wiped out. You clearly shouldn't be in charge of anything. "Why did he let him compete in the Goblet of Fire?! SO irresponsible!" That was covered in the book. Read it sometime. "Sirius Black CLEARLY wasn't guilty?!" This might be better covered under 'You don't understand laws'. Eyewitnesses had him blasting Peter, who left a dismembered finger, in public. Like even if you could convince them he didn't betray two other people, there is like literally NO proof. And their cute little Veritaserum argument made me laugh because, let's cover it again, please, READ THE BOOKS. And here's the worst; "Why did he let him go with a CLEARLY abusive family?" I would say read the books since that is covered already in them, but literally that's just a lack of real life experience. OR being responsible for someone being physically threatened. Can't be fixed by reading the books anymore. 'Let him go with recently freed Sirius!' Uhh. Dumbledore can't just waltz in a place and tell them what to do or how to rule a trial. Also, it's not safe. 'What about Remus?!' Remus is a werewolf. Like that's a real thing guys. He can't take care of a baby THREE nights out the month. He doesn't have a job so he can't pay someone. So not safe on multiple levels. 'The Weasleys!!' Here's eight kids, have fun. See above poorness and SAFETY. Like do they think Dumbledore has eight selves or he can somehow keep Harry safe everywhere that family went? Diagon Alley? Sitting at home? Playing in the yard? Maybe he could've stuck him in a vault at Gringotts, yeah!! I don't think people understand that the Potters were locked down in their Secret-Kept house for a reason. They would have literally never been safe otherwise. They didn't do it for funsies. Because while Dumbledore has pretty powerful magic, the other side did too. If Dumbledore could protect Harry from getting killed despite all odds, wouldn't he do that for everybody on the Light side and NOBODY would end up dead? "FINE just have him be in a Secret-Kept house with Remus/Weasleys/magically-freed Sirius" Not realistic with a werewolf. REALLY unrealistic with the Weasleys. And Sirius was never getting free, please, grow up. "But the Dursleys were abusive!" Yeah. Yeah they were. First, there's literally no way to know that would happen beforehand. And for those saying he left him there after the abuse began...yeah. Not dying is a pretty big reason to do so. You'd rather he die than be abused? Well, okay, but that's your shitty choice and worse than all of them. And, more importantly, those who say he could have stopped them. Hold on while I ROAR with laughter, then pity how sheltered you are. You cannot make people stop abusing kids. You can't threaten them, cajole them, bribe them, or in any way force a person to stop abusing a kid while that child is within proximity to them. "But...but it's not fair." Aww, now you're getting it. Life isn't fair. Hard choices have to be made! Congrats that you've never had to make a hard choice where all the answers suck. I mean, you CAN keep hating Dumbledore. Nobody is going to care in the greater scheme of things, because your decision affects nothing. It's pretty annoying I'll admit, but ultimately it's just a sign of poor reading comprehension and an inability to critically reason. TL:DR Life isn't fair. Your reasons are childish and uneducated.
