"Friends, family, and fellow classmates, please help us in welcoming our student elected speaker for this years graduation, Xion Kagome, to the stage," the elderly man in the powder blue suit stepped aside as Xion took center stage to cheers of endearment from both her classmates, and her friends sat just to the side of the stage in the front row of the stadium seating. Axel was hooting, Roxas was locked in a whispering argument with Sora, and Kairi was snapping pictures with fervor.
"I guess she's a photographer this week," Xion giggled to herself; tucking a stray stand of black hair behind her ear.
Xion felt nerves grip her as see leaned across the podium and to the microphone. This was her chance, and she could not mess this up; there would never be another opportunity like this. Her heart hammered against her chest as all eyes turned towards her.
Her eyes darted to Namine; the girlfriend she loved so dearly. She took in her kind smile and her warm eyes... every feature she'd grown to love in the past three years. Drunk off her girlfriend's beauty her mind was set.
'Do it for her, Xion," she thought to herself, 'don't chicken out. Be brave for Namine.'
The microphone gave a squeal as it was adjusted; the horrific screech echoing throughout the auditorium, and the room fell silent, "Um, hello, I'm Xion Kagome, a senior... or, rather I was a senior... sorry, I'm bad at this," she bit her lip and looked on as the crowd waited eagerly, "we're here today to celebrate something special. The ending of an era, and the beginning of a new one. As a freshman I never thought I would be where I am today: very close friends who I love so dearly," Sora waved wildly and Axel whooped, "my classmates, who I enjoyed spending the years with... and someone very special to me," her eyes locked with Namine's, "because she is the love of my life."
A nod, and Riku was dragging his little sister up to the stage as she rambled on in confusion, "And that's why, this is something I have to do before I feel I'm ready to leave Twilight High behind," Namine was forced out onto center stage; her eyes went wide as she took in the sizable crowd, her jaw dropping and tightening as though she were trying to speak, but her voice failed her. She smoothed her dress, tried to fix her tousled hair, and glared as her brother hopped of the stage to join their friends.
Xion smiled and took hold of her girlfriend's hand, relishing in how easily it fit into her own. Her knee dropped down to the wooden floor.
Her plain black gown wrinkled on contact and smudged with dust from the rickety stage, "Namine, you are the love of my life... and if you were anyone else, I wouldn't be doing this, but you're you and you deserve the sun, the moon, and the stars, and if I weren't me I could probably give you those things... but there is something I can do; hold you dearer to me than anyone who has ever touched my heart before. You were just a freshman girl with soft hands and a beautiful face, and now you're my everything, and I never want to lose you... so, Namine, I guess what I'm saying is will you... marry me?"
Namine's eyes glossed over with tears, and with a hand pressed tight to her mouth she nodded furiously. A ring slipped over her finger and they were bound to one another in an unbreakable way.
The crowd stood and cheered, faces stained with tears of joy. Namine's arms found their way around Xion's neck and she hugged her close as if she never would again, "I love, Xion... I love you."
Xion pulled her away, gazing at her love, taking in the tear smudged make-up, and the red nose.
"I love you too, Namine. Forever and always."
