“Forget all men. Go away. Happiness is not for you...” (Darling Love 1, 1949). “I would not give way before this sordid onslaught....” Sordid onslaught? You got dumped, Laura. You’ll get over it (so they say -- I can still vividly remember getting dumped 40 years ago...30 years ago...10 years ago...*sob*).
Darling Love (from the company that published Archie) made a dramatic change in comic book convention here, dispensing with ! at the end of every sentence.
“My heart has tasted the bitterness of rejection...Take a lesson from me...no one is really irresistible!” (All True Romance 25, 1955).
33 years later, Robert Palmer refuted this assertion: “ She used to look good to me, but now I find her ... Simply irresistible.”
“I never mentioned marriage! I thought you’d understand! You’ll learn to be happy here!” In Dumpsville! Population: You! [Love Journal 16, 1952).
