I don't think any of my doodles are much substance for comic dubs. If anything, the Soul possessing Susie has to be the most dub-able thing I've made, and I don't think it's really much compared to all the other comics that get dubbed. And honestly, I'm fine with that. I don't want to be known in the public eye. I've seen the horrors of fandom, and while I enjoy existing in it, I don't want to be subjected to its wrath.
That being said, I would like to see a comic dub of my work. Not for the fame or publicity of it, but simply so I can request whoever dubs my comics to have Kris not be a man's voice. Preferably a non-binary person's voice.
The trans community has been fighting for trans characters being played by trans actors for years now. And we finally have the bigger studios actually doing that, so having a non-binary character being played by someone who is not non-binary just feels weird to me.
I understand that smaller YouTube channels are nothing like larger studios, but honestly, if you have the resources to get a mix gender cast to voice act a comic dub, then you can hire a non-binary person.
But say it's a team of two, one man, one woman. I'd prefer the woman to voice Kris, and if it's just one man or multiple men, give Kris the best feminine voice.
I'm tired of everyone assuming Kris is a man because of people mistakenly assuming androgyny as masculinity. And I'd like to see more people break the assumption and make Kris more noticeably not male.
That isn't to say that I hate any dubs of Kris having a man's voice. I don't mind it. So long as they're using Kris's correct pronouns and still keeping Kris's non-binary-ness. There's no rule stating that non-binary people can't sound masculine, and there are plenty of MtEnby non-binary people who use their natural voice, and trans masc enbies who prefer to use a deeper voice or whose voice is lowered due to testosterone. And I can never know if someone voicing Kris is a cis man or a non-binary person, and I don't assume that. There's a lot more nuance to this whole thing.
But yeah. That's my drunken rambling hot take. Idk how to conclude this post. I guess my takeaway is please have non-binary actors play non-binary character.
