At some point, I stopped seeing Junior’s behaviour as a cheeky kid and started seeing it as a narcissist in the making. Eddy needs to be firmer and let his brat face the consequences of his selfish actions. Today I was just done with Junior’s nonsense and let Duolingo know what I think of him and his doormat Dad.

Opposites Attract👁️👄👁️

Aw yes thank you! Opposites Attract is a sort of weird fic because I don’t have that much source material to go off of. Duolingo has a cast of characters that they’ve posted about on their various social media accounts, and they have personalities and everything for them. One of their characters, Lily, is incredibly queer-coded. On several of their posts they say “Who needs therapy when you can just dye your hair”, and on one of their posts (Instagram I think) they said she listens to girl in red. Lily has a friend named Zari, and the reason my fic is called “Opposites Attract” is because one of their posts said about Lily and Zari, “Opposites attract, even for the best of friends”. They’re clearly very gay, so even though I only have the descriptions of the characters and maybe a little bit more from using Duolingo myself, I really enjoy their dynamic.

Now onto the fic itself! Opposites Attract is the story of how Lily and Zari started dating. Two high school girls. Best friends. One of them: sad, hiding her identity from the world. The other: a ray of sunshine, wearing her heart on her sleeve. They seem like an odd pair, but the two of them have a bond that runs deeper than anyone else can see. Opposites Attract is a story of self-discovery and challenging the ideas society has ingrained in you about who you are. Here’s a short sample.

“Truth or dare?” Zari asked, turning to face Lily. Lily set her book in her lap.

“In case you haven’t noticed, there are only two of us.”

Zari grabbed a pillow from Lily’s bed and sat down on the floor. It was Lily’s favorite—a worn white pillow with flowers and vines decorating the front. Her grandmother had made it for Lily’s fourth birthday, when she was going through her fairy phase. It was off-limits to anyone who came over except Zari. “Who said we can’t play truth or dare with two people?”

“I don’t know, I guess I’ve only really played it at Ivy’s sleepovers.”

“So?” Zari’s dark eyes shone with excitement. “Will you play?”

“Fine.”

“Yes!” Zari pumped her fist in the air. “So, truth or dare?”

“Truth.”

“Hmmm, okay.” Zari considered for a moment. “Are you gay?”

Lily froze. “What?”
