story summary
Ayla has left after being cursed to death once more- this time, by Broud. Forced to leave her son behind, Durc must battle for standing in a Clan where tradition and conformity is everything. Named for the figure in a fable, Durc has to decide what he wants in his story- will he stay with Broud’s Clan, forever looked down upon by the leader, or will he take inspiration from his name and become his own legend?

Thinking that maybe Jean m. Auel wanted really badly for Lumi and The Mother to line up thematically and aesthetically to Jondalar and Ayla a little bit too much. Bc Lumi.... Would not do That* to his mate...

Bc did anyone else notice that the grey Wolf is Durc's totem? And that Ayla kind of(?) got her son back, if only in a superficial way.
