I watched IRON LUNG.

I KNEW it was going to be amazing because MARKIPLIER is a fucking guarantee.

But... FUCK. FUUUUUUUUCK.

124 minutes. Of absolute perfection.

The buildup and pace. Just PERFECT.

The sense of urgency. The story. Oh the story. I love how we got a crap ton of lore but just not exactly enough to give us the chance to fill the gaps. A true Lovecraftian move, and not just "oh big incomprehensible monsterdeity" like 98% of modern Lovecraftian adjacent media.

This movie gives what I love about just Lovecraft's writing; All the right pieces and the way to read the story but enough gaps to let YOUR fantasy work as well.

Not everything MUST be explained.

I'm happy for the lore I got in this movie. It was just what I needed to enjoy the story but leave me in the "oh this is way bigger than any of us could fathom" feeling I oh so love in cosmic horror.

The effects, practical and not, just a 100/10.

Those Gallons of Fake Blood really gave everything they could.

All the cast? Amazing. Spot on. Yes. YES.

I'll never ever ever be able to convey how thankful, how happy, how genuinely terrified and giddy I was throughout the whole movie.

just saw iron lung for a 3rd time

and it was even better than the last two times OF COURSE! especially since i had rewatched marks play through beforehand.

just WOW what a film!! i cant wait for marks next project! like i posted before i think white knuckle could make a killer movie.

i also cant wait for david szymanski's next project, a lot of what i loved about this movie is the writing and the world he created, and most of my favorite lines are ripped straight from the original game.

i might be seeing it again tomorrow as well...

Beat Butcher's Creek, David Szymanski's new game

It's a fairly short Condemned-like with a gritty Manhunt-esque tone. You play as a sleazy pervert trying to score some snuff tapes, and this takes you to a literal torture dungeon run by a murder cult trying to appease... something.

Now, you might be asking "how sleazy?", to which I say that you regain health by snapping Polaroids of blood and gore. You know, for later. You also spend most of the game naked but that's neither here nor there.

The gameplay is fairly rudimentary and kind of stiff, but it was made by one guy over the course of a year so I don't expect the level of polish that Condemned had. I do wish the enemy telegraphs were a little clearer but it's not a deal breaker or anything. I didn't expect to see some Dark Messiah action either, there's a couple of setpieces where you can kick enemies into stuff and it's pretty satisfying.

I got through it in roughly 2 hours. I'd say it's about as good as Chop Goblins, David's previous game, though in a different way obviously. Play the demo, see if you vibe with it, and go from there.
