Not only is it a great game but we need to kick Corporate Butt!!

Krafton the publisher company that owned the development team behind subnautica; Unknown Worlds tried to rip off the team.

By contract Krafton owe Unknown Worlds 250M bonus tied to the release and revenue of Subnautica 2 and THE CEO OF KRAFTON ASKED CHATGPT HOW TO GET OUT OF PAYING SAID BONUS.

He fired the teams Executives, stole their documents and materials and caused major delays to the games release. In an effort to avoid paying what has been promised.

They obviously took this to court and Unknown Worlds WON!!!!! Got their executives back and an extention to their goal!

If they sell enough copies of early release and make enough money Krafton will be forced to pay the 250M to the devs who have said they plan on sharing that bonus with the whole team of about 100 workers, we're talking life changing money here.

So if you want a corporation to pay for trying to scam a dev team with the assistance of AI and want to support the artists and devs go buy Subnautica 2 or at least Reblog this so someone else can!

There's a very long interview with Adam and Baudelaire Welch on EuroGamer talking about DU creation, and Baudelaire Welch tremselves talks how they got to write DU, why they wanted to work for Larian, Astarion being their favorite, writing DU romance for him, and how they didn't want a redemption path for DU because they found it corny but the fans and Adam liked the idea so they made that ending "on one scrap". IDK why people are pearl clutching about Baudelaire Welch critiques when they themselves spoke about it freely. IDK if I can post the link - I found people commenting on it on Reddit, but if mods permit it, I can share the link.

Kind of? Anon is explaining it in very bad faith because Smith was working on them during the ideation stage (see: working on a pitch). He also supports Welch and compliments what they did with the character. Karlach was not Baylus' at first either, but I think the shift came later down the pipeline whereas here it was assigned to Welch after they gave a pitch that the team liked.

It's time for all of us to admit that Welch is just a scapegoat for people whose expectations didn't match reality. The real one to blame for all of this is Swen and only him. As the saying goes, the fish rots from the head down, and everything we ended up with exists precisely with his approval.

I don't like Welch's writing but please chill out. Larian saw their writing and recruited them because that's what they were looking for. They were just doing their job and probably wasn't given a lot of time to work on narrative design, romances and Durge at the same time

If I remember correctly they joined the writing team pretty late like a year and a half before release
