Day 166#: Dusky Thrush

Today's animal of the day is the Dusky Thrush (Turdus eunomus)!

This highly migratory species of thrush can be found in the open woodlands of central Siberia and the Kamchatka Peninsula during the warmer months, and then during the winter migrates to Japan, Korea, Myanmar, and South China. They look very similar to the fieldfare and Naumann's thrush, with dark brown feathers on their backs and rumps, black spots, reddish-brown underwings, and white underbellies with black spots. However, they can be differentiated by their size and slightly darker head feathers. These birds are omnivores and will gather in small flocks to forage for insects and berries to eat. They are especially fond of earthworms and mosquitoes. In 2016, one of these thrushes got lost and somehow ended up in the UK. Hundreds of birdwatchers traveled far and wide to catch a glimpse of it, but sadly, I couldn't find out what ended up happening to it. I hope they found their way back home.
