Answering for Harringrove (Steve Harrington/Billy Hargrove from Stranger Things) (I’m usually a multi shipper so I have very few couples that I’m solidly ‘this is the only person I will accept them with’)

Originally I was leaning Steve (grew up wealthy middle class), but now I’m thinking Billy, but specifically in a future where they’re fairly financially secure

He’d start with the books, handing stuff off to Steve idly (Billy is a nerd fight me), then hes darting off around the place remembering things they need to get (new dishcloths, a candle holder, oh I promised Joyce we’d replace that jar-)

Steve’s arms are getting progressively more full but he’s too happy seeing Billy not worrying about the cost for once to say anything

I headcanon that (in this fix it future version of ST), Billy buys Max bird themed memorabilia whenever he can, and getting Max a present means getting her partner (Lucas and El) presents too. El insists that if she’s getting presents EVERYONE gets presents, so now they have to go round picking out something for everyone

By the time they reach the checkout, Steve is teetering behind their giant pile and regretting not getting a shopping cart (they came in for books and books alone), Billy panics a little when he realises how much stuff he got, and Steve drops it on the belt and insists that they have to pay for it now, otherwise the poor poor workers will have to put it all back

hi hello terribly sorry to bother you but this has been haunting me. what is eliding gerunds. i have run this through in as many accents as i can think of and it still eludes me. and why are they load bearing.

OH. Okay. So. when you google "gerund" you get this.

Which is why when in a friend exchange where we were anonymous and someone guessed me within twenty minutes of posting based on "elided gerunds, this is medusa" I started spluttering and throwing up my hands and going what do you even MEAN I dropped out of several programs I don't know WORDS FOR THINGS. while everyone laughed and said yeah they make a good point this is definitely you.

But anyways a gerund is a word that ends in "ing". And by eliding them the person was referring to the thing that I do when I drop the gs— "I've been watchin' over the edge of that ridge, no movement yet"— as a nod to the accent. I come from an area where people drop their Gs a lot and I like to see it represented in fiction and I like that both techno and phil do that so I write out that much of their accents. I do this a lot. I'm not the only one who does this but like, my autocorrect corrects "fucking" to "fuckin'", now.

So the time I was like "I finally make eliding gerunds load bearing in a fic" it's cause in the fic I had phil initially dropping his gs, and then I wrote it out that he's adding the gs back in so I didn't spell it out as something like "makin'", I did "making", so the INTENT was that if you read it you see that his accent is fluctuating.

I don't know if this translates at all outside of my head but I have to drop the gs (elide the gerunds) or it doesn't sound right to me.

i was talking a lot about fanon, 'canon', and the rise of fandom puritanism and policing tbh, and how depictions permeate fan spaces despite how well rooted they are in canon (or, arent), how reductive these can be when it comes to greek myth, why this might be, how it all manifests, and the rise of people for some fucking reason deciding that there is only ever one correct version of a myth and all of the other ones are 'misinformation' which is exactly how myths DONT work. anyways. heated topic for me. im normal
