Black Artist Spotlight - Dust II Onyx

The Dust II Onyx Tarot deck by Courtney Alexander is a breathtaking multimedia style deck full of passion, power, heart, and soul. In the artists own words, “These applications are a way of exploring the intersections of Black identity while featuring historical facts, cultural myths, traditions, symbolism, and icons throughout the Black Diaspora.” I spent a couple hours reading Courtney’s Instagram and website to learn her story and the journey of Dust 2 Onyx. When I finished, it inspired me to post about black focused Tarot here for the next week. Uplifting black voices and highlighting their passions is important; always. But especially right now. I have not been in a mental state to do a reading for a while. But today... Tarot in the time of Covid-19 Reading #73 Social Justice Spread . How can I embrace social justice?: Nine of Staffs- resistance, strength, determination There is a reserve of energy left within that can carry me though this time of depletion. Have faith and trust in self and remember what I am fighting for. This will shield me from giving up. . What are my areas of unawareness when it comes to social justice: Ten of Blades- Karmic lessons, endings When I hit rock bottom, the impact may knock the wind out of me. But from this sense of defeat can come a clarity of purpose that helps me to rise up again. Accept that this movement involved painful awarenesses. Learn and move forward. . What action can I personally take to be of support?: Wheel of Fortune dormant- resistance to change, breaking cycles This is the time to hunker down and do the hard and unpleasant work- the work with no glory but the work that breaks negative cycles that do not serve social justice. . Tarot in the Time of Covid-19 Reading #70 About the Self . Me: Eight of Blades- empowerment, new faith, restoration . This is the card of intergenerational trauma interrupted by new patterns that sustain healing and growth, supported by profound institutional and individual social change. Remove the blinders and escape the chains. Face fear in order to act and move forward. Ask for help. . My current path: Lil Gourd dormant- isolation, vindictiveness. . Feeling wounded, stuck, and disconnected from wells of light, love, and gentleness. Interrupt this path through play and creativity. . My potential: Five of Blades: vindication .
