thinking about how funny the dinner situation was at my parents, purely because my dad is exceptionally picky and has decided to make it the rest of the family's problem.
so as a kid I never really ate rice, sweet peppers, pork, beans or cornmeal at home and only ever got them at school lunches, all because of my dad who said that while serving in the JNA he got fed nothing but pasulj, đuveć and polenta and he never wanted to eat it ever again. Whenever my mum made stuffed peppers she'd make some meatballs out of the filling so that my dad would eat it, as he refused to just peel the pepper from the filling.
When I cooked food for the family in my teenage years, if I ever made something that had peppers in it or served polenta or rice as a side dish he refused to eat it and would eat around it.
on the other hand he was extremely nostalgic for dvopek and tried to get some whenever he could. because the slovenian army didnt have it it was hard to find something like it, so he just bought a bunch of rusk and snacked on it every time he came home.
