Tonight's the night pt. 3 (Dwayne Pride x Reader)
•• IT'S FINALLY DONE 🎉 Hooray! Hope you all enjoy! 💕 ••
You watched the timer stop. Not a sound came from the machine nor either you or Dwayne.
“Did it work?” You whispered and Dwayne sighed, his shoulders relaxing. He smiled.
“It did. You made the right call.”
“We,” You corrected him, “we made the right call.” He chuckled.
“Right.” Dwayne jumped as his phone buzzed in his pocket. “It's Chris.” You laughed seeing Chris’s caller ID was him in his Baconator costume. He answered with a serious tone. “Whatcha got, Chris? Really? Great, we'll meet you back at the office. No, no, we're okay.”
“Looks like you're getting your night out after all. Chris and Gregorio found the suspects at the stadium.” He beamed a smile at you, and you did your best to control yourself. “I told ya I'd keep my promise.”
“Y-yep.” You replied. “You sure did.”
“Come on, let's get back to the office. I'm sure you'll wanna get all the paperwork out of the way before you leave for the night.”
The suspects were quick to give up the rest of their group, much to everyone's relief. It made your job much easier. Dwayne had left about an hour ago and it was just you and Sebastian left in the office.
“I'm really tempted to put stupid coworker puts life on the line for new boyfriend as the conclusion of my report.” Sebastian quipped and you huffed.
“You're welcome, jackass.”
“It's getting late.” He stated. “If you want to start bar hopping you better get going.” You sighed.
“You didn't almost get blown up to get cold feet now.” He stood up and marched over to your desk, pulling the plug for your monitor.
“Your report can wait until Monday.” He laughed. “Don't make me drag you to the Tru Tone myself.” You pushed back from your desk and grabbed the bag next to your desk.
“Fine, I'll go change in the bathroom then go, okay?”
Changing into nicer clothes seemed to bring you more confidence. Once you hit the first bar you slammed back three jello shots in a row before moving on. By the time you reached the Tru-tone, it was almost eleven. You'd had about seven drinks by then, giving you more than enough liquid courage and a fire in your stomach to ask Dwayne out. Walking in the door you took a large gulp of air. This was it, you thought, this was your moment. You hadn't expected the bar to be this crowded. You managed to push your way through the crowd and get to the bar. Jimmie smiled seeing you at the far end of the bar. He came over and poured you a glass of water.
“What? No liquor?” You asked and he shook his head with a laugh.
“You look like you've had enough.”
“Only to a trained professional, such as myself.” He chuckled. “If you're looking for Dwayne he's about to go up on stage. He was looking for you earlier.”
“Of course he was, can't stop talking about you when he’s working the bar. I just sorta tune him out.” Dwayne talked about you? Had you heard that right? The lights dimmed and Jimmy reaches out and grabbed your hand. He pulled you out of your head before pointing towards the stage. Dwayne sat down at the piano. You didn't know who the other people were with him but Dwayne played a few keys before looking out into the crowd.
“This song is for a special (girl/boy/pronoun).” His eyes met yours and you waved. He smiled. “I hope they like it.” You felt tears prick the corners of your eyes as he started singing Love me tender by Elvis Presley. You'd told him how your dad used to sing that to you every night when he tucked you in bed. When he finished the crowd roared in applause. Jimmy turned to you again.
“Now’s a good time as any.” He winked before walking away.
“God damn, does everyone fucking know about it?” You asked under your breath as you chugged your last gulp of water and headed up towards the other end of the bar. You swore you saw Dwayne head that way…
“Lookin’ for me?” He put his hand on your shoulder and smiled.
“Yeah!” You tried to talk over the crowd and the band. He motioned towards the back room. You nodded and lead the way. Dwayne shut the door quietly behind him.
“I was startin’ to think you weren't gonna show.” He teased, coming over and giving you a hug.
“I was thinking that myself.” You let out an awkward laugh. The skin around his eyes crinkled and you broke. “A-actually, Dwayne, I was hoping to ask you something.” He took a step back.
“Sure.” Such a casual answer. Maybe this wasn't the right time-. You stopped mid-thought as you saw Jimmy looking through the window of the door. He noticed you watching him and he ducked.
“I-I uh was wondering...about...you.” You tried to form a coherent sentence but your brain was scrambling all over the place. You didn't even notice Dwayne had moved back closer to you.
“Wondering...if I’d go out on a date with you?” He brushed his hand through your hair.
“Y-yeah.” You grabbed onto his shirt and pulled him into you. Dwayne had to put a firm grip on your shoulders to keep from falling over. It's was so hot, was this what it always felt like kissing someone? When you hit the floor you realized that it was more likely that you'd had a little too much to drink.
“(Y/n), you alright?” Dwayne helped you up off the floor and onto a chair.
“I'm fine, j-just a little light headed.” You put a hand to your head and winced. There'd definitely be a bruise there in the morning.
“Well, either way, I'll set up the guest bedroom upstairs. I don't want you walking home in your condition.” You nodded in agreement. “Come on, we can talk about next Friday night upstairs.” That statement alone practically made you fall again. Tonight had been the night Dwayne Pride had agreed to go out with you.
