@dwylafn asked from Kayli: “I thought you of all people would be different.” disappointment starters | accepting
Alistair's expression stayed hard, angry, though Kayli's words surprised him. What it drove instead wasn't sympathy or regret but a sneer of disbelief. Perhaps he would feel more sympathy later, when the sting of discovery had worn off, but for now - "I don't know what you expected of me," he replied. his voice grew louder as the incredulity sank in deeper. "how you expected that i might react to this?"
His hands pulled up to do… something, anything so that his body was moving instead of his mind flashing through everything he couldn't quite process, and he thumped them against his chest as he turned to her and asked honestly. "What is it you think of me then, truly? That I would just accept, that I might turn an blind eye?"
This time his hands found his hair and he clutched at it and tugged lightly in his frustration. "Which is it then that you must think I am? That I am too naive, that I am too kind, or that I am too stupid to know better? It must be one of them for you to think that I might not feel the same as others!"
