I listened to most of the album "Dancing on the Ceiling" by Lionel Richie yesterday. This was an attempt to give his music a fair shake, after dissmising his music as crap-saccharine fluff but finding that I do enjoy his ballads with Commodores. My instincts were mostly right; a lot of the material and production on this album ranges from "boring" to "cheesy." (What would 80s ballads be like if the DX7 were never invented?) On the positive side, is voice is fantastic, which makes up a lot of ground. Plus, the album sold lots of copies, indicating that many don't share my criticisms.
