Two-part Drabble Game

Roommates AU + “If I kissed you right now, what would you do?”

“What would you if I kissed you right now?”

She looks at him over the rim of her mug of tea. It’s still piping hot, even though she’s brewed it hours ago, because her powers are useful like that sometimes, and the steam rising from it makes the air somewhat wobbly before her face.

He shouldn’t be focusing on things like that, but he’s too nervous to think about anything else. Especially the words he’s just blurted out apropos of nothing, after seeing Blaze curled up on their sofa the way she always does in the early afternoons, soft and relaxed and utterly beautiful.

Blaze herself seems utterly unfazed by it all, and only quirks an eyebrow as she puts the mug down, and this is what Silver loves about her the most, the way she faces everything with such calm and patience, even when he’s shaken and angry and bursting at the seams. She’s like a safehouse, even more so than their own, actual house, with its leaks and weird noises and the nosy lady that lives upstairs.

“I don’t know” she says in the end, and his heart sinks just a tiniest bit. But then the corner of her mouth turns in a small, amused smile, and her stance changes - she turns to him slightly, unfurling her crossed legs and extending a hand. An invitation. “But why don’t you try and see for yourself?”

fanfic end of the year asks

1. favorite fic you wrote this year

I’d be lying if I mentioned anything but Wayward Winds. It’s a weird, dumb, crack-y rollercoaster of emotions but it’s been such a liberating fic to write that nothing else can compare to it. It made me find the will to write AND enjoy what I write again, after I thought I’d never be able to feel the same way again, so...yeah.

4. total number of words you wrote this year

The sum of it all took a while to count AND I most certainly missed something, so while my calculator says around 97700 words, it might be more correct to say roughly 100 000.

WOW. That’s a fucking LOT. I didn’t realize I’d written so much stuff, this didn’t feel like the most productive year. Another lesson in not trusting the negative shit your brain throws at you, eh?

9. longest wip of the year

It’s still Chain!!!! 19 chapters and nearly 60k words in, I’m not even close to finishing, so it’s likely we won’t see the end of it until late 2021 at least.

But I’m not dropping it anytime soon, don’t worry.

12. favorite character to write about this year

I rediscovered a love for my favorite character in existence AKA Pinocchio (or August Booth, in some instances. lol.) and writing for him has been such a fucking trip it’s almost unbelievable. Love is stored in the puppet boy.

amuse me... sonadow 👀

OKAY YOU KNOW WHAT I went checking as soon as I saw this prompt and apparently it's been YEARS since I've written anything explicitly Sonadow??? And it wasn't even in English but in Italian still??? Wild. And to think it used to be my main Sonic ship. So thank you friend for the prompt AND for getting me back into it - I hope I was not as rusty as I fear I was while writing it.

"How come I never see you laughing?"

Shadow looked up from the piece of motorbike engine he'd been tinkering with. In the glaring sunlight, he could just about make out Sonic's silhouette, staring down at him with his hands on his hips.

"What do you mean?" He asked, carefully setting the tools aside.

He was not upset by the interruption: mildly surprised to see Sonic already back from his run was more like it. There were countless things a super-fast hedgehog could do on a sunny summer day, even without any impending threat against the world - it was a wonder he'd run out of pastimes so quickly.

Sonic, though, didn't seem inclined to explain. Instead, he gestured vaguely towards the old radio Shadow had propped up a few feet away. "I heard a bit of that radio program while waiting for you to notice I'd come back - took you a while, by the way, you might wanna work on those reflexes - and you didn't laugh even once. It's a shame, it's pretty funny."

Shadow blinked, turning to the incriminated system. He hadn't even noticed it was still on.

It had become a habit of his, after all, in the lazy, long afternoons during periods of inactivity. Dismantling the bike, cleaning it and reassembling it piece by piece, lulled by the repetitive moments; the sun warming his back; the oldies radio station playing in the background, something Rouge would have mocked him endlessly for but that set his mind at ease, prompting memories that were mostly happy and only slightly painful.

It was...peaceful, in a way. It allowed his thoughts to wander, with no worry in sight. But it did mean he often lost track of his surroundings, so he merely shrugged in answer.

"And besides, you never laugh at my jokes, either" Sonic pressed on, undeterred by his silence. "That's even worse."

"That's just because your jokes are not funny." Sonic clutched at his chest, gasping in mock outrage. "How dare you - I'll have you know they're very amusing."

Shadow scoffed. Honestly, the sheer gall of it. "Amuse me, then. I'm all ears."

Silence stretched between them for a minute. Then Sonic took a few steps forward, closing the distance between them, and he cupped Shadow's chin with his hand, pressing a kiss to his lips.

It lasted only a handful of seconds before Shadow broke it, a small smile on his face. "That wasn't very amusing. I fear you'll have to try harder."

Sonic huffed, draping himself over Shadow's shoulders. "You're impossible. One day I'll catch you by surprise, and then we'll see who's gonna have the last laugh."

"Was that a pun?"

"Glad you noticed, at least." The blue hedgehog pointed at the pieces Shadow had just discarded. "So, tell me. Did you make much progress while I was gone? Or it's my glorious presence that makes you work so well?"

Shadow shook his head, smile still dancing on his lips, and went back to working, occasionally pointing some oddity out to the other as he went. It wasn't the same thing, with Sonic there: it was not as peaceful, nor did he expect to get to the end of it as fast as he would have on his own, but it was not unpleasant, either. It was a different kind of warmth, settling somewhere close to his heart as Sonic prattled on, covering the music streaming in from the radio.

It was, Shadow thought, the kind of afternoon he could happily live through for many days on end.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO MAKE ME SUFFER

Alright, here goes. But only bc the moment you read the latest chapter of Chain you’ll be at my throat in a second so I need to offer you good prompts in an attempt to survive.

Send me two (2) tropes from this list + a ship and I’ll describe how I’d combine them in the same story

The Big Damn Kiss + Heroic Sacrifice 

If I were to write it (and I might, mind you, because I like angst more than I’ll ever admit) it would probably be Silver sacrificing himself. Taken for granted that this would happen after the whole Iblis ordeal, he would perhaps feel guilty about not having been able to give up his life to save their world the first time. So there’d be one of those long, very cinematographic pauses in battle where everyone is at loss of what to do and they just know someone will have to take the fall and pretty much do a suicide attack to give them all a chance to win.

And then, uncharacteristically quietly, Silver would go up to Blaze and kiss her. And it would be very dramatic, you know, because they’ve known about their mutual feelings for a long time but neither would have made the first step at that point, because they’ve been friends for too long to know what to do.

But after that, he’d make the jump, or take the shot, or end up in an explosion, because that’s a very Sonic lore thing to do.

And then, because I refuse to let this be permanent, he’d wake up, more or less in one piece, the battle won, the enemy gone, and Blaze would kick his ass because HE’D DESERVE IT. Only after she would tell him that he left something behind before he went and tried to die like an idiot, and she’d kiss him, and it’d be a less relevant kiss, perhaps, in the grand scheme of thins, but it would be slower, and softer, and they’d know they have all the time on the world to come to terms with what it means.

THEY’RE GREAT I LOVE THEM Sega have them interact more please this is a matter of life and death

What non sexual activities do they like to do together?

They like gardening together (that’s canon too, IDW is doing shit right) and also good old fashioned cuddling once they’re not fighting for their life anymore

Who does chores around the house?

They share bc they were both raised right. Also after surviving in a hellish landscape they both know how to do stuff and how to rely on each other so it was natural for them.

Who’s the better cook?

As for the previous point they both know how not to starve but I feel like their food wouldn’t be...that great...Blaze would probably try to be lawful good about it and follow recipes and stuff before accidentally burning something, while Silver would go balls to the walls and create concoctions that vary from disgusting to culinary masterpiece  bc he’s very enthusiastic

Who’s the funniest drunk?

Probs Silver but mostly it would be hard to get Blaze drunk so nobody would really know what she’s like drunk. Once Amy Rouge and co manage to have her down a few drinks on a girls night out they will know just what kind of karaoke-singing, bad-decision-making drunk gal they unleashed.

Do they have kids?

I love giving fankids to every Sonic ship and I think these two especially would make great parents...so soft...so fiercely protective...Not a herd of children tho, maybe two or three

Do they have any traditions?

I honestly think they would celebrate not only birthdays, romantic anniversaries etc but also the day they were reunited after Blaze’s “death”? Not some grand thing, just acknowledging how lucky they’ve been and appreciating what they have

What do they fight about?

Silver is a reckless, naive feral baby who always manages to get himself into trouble and Blaze sometimes keeps herself under too much control and is def more guarded than him. They clash about what these things entail for them in battle but also while meeting new people, sometimes ferociously, but they always find a solution and/or a compromise together in the end

What would they do if they found their paring tag on tumblr? (If they have one)

Listen I don’t fucking care keep my children away from Tumblr drama they would probably be perplexed at how people are attacking each other over stupid things when there’s so much good to do in the world

Who cried at the end of Marley and me?

Silver obviously. Blaze was a bit shook too but the hilarity of hugging a weeping Silver and patting his head like “there there”? Unparalleled.

Who always wins at Mario kart?

Blaze. For all that he’s used to gravity-defying situations, Silver keeps falling off the rails (yes, I’m projecting, I SUCK at Mario Kart)

One thing I like about this ship?

They’re both just so...good? It’s clear there’s mutual respect and they trust each other completely, and that their feelings are based on a deep, solid friendship. also they both baby

One thing I don’t like about the ship?

Every time I see them I remember this “friend” I had in middle school who introduced me to the fandom but was also utterly convinced that Silver and Blaze were siblings (not even a sibling-like friendship, just biologically brother and sister) and would insult me if I dared say otherwise so yeah

The song I would say fits them?

No song I suggest could ever top Dream of an absolution but I quite like Giant by Rag’n’Bone Man and Calvin Harris for them bc it kind of reminds me of the way they get the best out of each other and help each other grow and save the world

A headcanon about the paring?

They met bc their mothers used to fight Iblis together and were of the habit to show off their babies’ skills like “oh yeah silver lifted a house with his mind yesterday” “that’s cute, blaze burned down the same house with just a glance afterwards” and in the background silver and blaze would just be doing the stupidest shit like eating dirt or crawling out to danger bc dumb feral kiddos
