short change idol; closed
Given his outstanding stature, his chocolaty voice, and his charismatic stage persona, it isn't a surprise that Chanyeol is the main rapper of EXO. He's good at his role too: the speed and clarity of howhe raps can be said to be unmatched from anyone else in EXO. Yes, Chanyeol is more than talented at his trade. Would he consider himself to be the best? No, far from it. Would he like to be? Yes, one day. Chanyeol wants to become the best at everything he does.
Which is why today, Chanyeol finds himself standing in front of a flight of stairs, long and eventually turning into nothingness, save from the rumbling bass that churns his stomach, and his blood. The darkness stares back at him, taunting him. He’s too much of an idol to dabble into hip-hop. He doesn’t belong here. Chanyeol blinks hard, expelling the approaching demons with the shake of his head. He’s managed to come here alone, after days and days of begging his manager. He’d be good, he’d wear his mask (he’d wear it anyways, the fat ugly cold sore on his lips stubbornly refusing to go away, no matter how much medicine he had applied), he wouldn’t talk to anyone and wouldn’t post anything on social media that indicated he was there. This isn’t for fun: Chanyeol is only going because he needs to. Underground rappers typically put on shows not because they were trying to receive glory, or gold, but because they loved what they did and wish to show that to everyone else. Chanyeol too, loves what he does, yet he receives all the fame and fortune for doing something he knew someone else could be doing ten times better. But he’s not going to give up his day job just because he feels a little bad. No, he’s going to become better. And he’s going to do it starting with the little things, like going to an underground hip hop show in real life. For notes, he thinks. Strictly for business, and not for pleasure.
He’s been standing outside for too long, and people are beginning to notice. “Is that Chanyeol? Why is Chanyeol here? Why is he standing all alone? Wow, he looks even more handsome in real life!” It was a mistake for him to wear his more expensive clothes today, drawing attention and thus working against his intentions, but he just wasn’t going to allow himself to dress plainly when he was going to an underground concert such as this. He had to look his best, even when no one was going to know who he was. A glance to the left, then to the right, and he starts on his descent. The bass causes his vision to blur gradually with each step, it’s so heavy that he leans against the wall for a moment, a smile teeming with anticipation on his covered face. Chanyeol reaches the bouncer and drops a handful of bills in the nearby bucket, his mouth shut and head ducked. With a nod, the bouncer lets him through, where the real fun begins. Slipping into the crowd, Chanyeol is no longer the voice of EXO, but a simple concert-goer in awe of the current performer. Head bobbing and body beginning to feel the beat, all prerequisites of him attending the show are left in the dust when he turns to the nearest person, pulls down his mask, and leans towards them to shout,
“Isn’t this great? This is my first time at something like this, but I'm having so much fun already!"
Chanyeol says it so excitedly that it almost doesn’t sound incredibly dorky and unfit to be uttered in such a swaggish environment such as this. But it does, and Chanyeol is completely oblivious as he turns back to look at the current rapper, engrossed in their verse which could only be described as …fire, in his words no less.
