WBJ Day 4 - History
I’m going to go a little differently with this particular day, since there’s so much to cover in terms of history. The Dyaran people don’t really have any form of writing, everything being passed through oral tradition or pictures, which means that a lot of their history has muddied facts. Usually a storykeeper would sort through the various versions of a story, trying to sift the truth from the myriad of stories.
So for today’s event of History, I figured I’d tell a story.
Gather round, young ones. Tonight’s tale is about the man who claimed the top of Titan’s Pillar, and the perils that followed.
You see children, the Titan’s Pillar wasn’t always the flat topped mountain you know today, long ago it too had a point. They say the tip of Titan’s Pillar was almost in reach of the heavens themselves. There even used to be a kingdom there, that ruled all the world.
The king of this land considered himself to be a god given mortal form, and constantly dreamed of returning to his home, where he would regain his power as a god once again. They called this man the Titanium King.
Titanium as I understand it was an ancient and powerful metal gifted by the gods themselves. They say it could withstand anything nature threw at it without even the slightest budge. And the Titanium King was a master of dealing with this mysterious metal.
Using his ancient knowledge, the Titanium King began to build a tower, using the very tip top of the Titan’s Pillar itself. Day after day, month after month, he toiled by hand to craft this tower, hoping one day to reach the sky.
Now unfortunately for him, the gods didn’t take too well to a mortal trying to enter their domain, even more so since he had convinced himself that he was more than what he was.
In an act of wrath, the gods struck, slicing the Titanium King’s entire city, and the mountain it was built off of, in one single strike. They say the last thing the Titanium King saw was his kingdom falling to ruin, before he was crushed by his own shining tower.
The lesson to be learned kids, is that everyone has their limits, and it would be very wise indeed to know when you’ve reached them.
WBJ Day 3 - Races
The world of Dyara has a few races that make up it’s ever dwindling landscape, so let’s get a rundown of them for a bit.
Rasha - The common folk of Dyara and the people who make up the largest population. Rashafolk are spread wide over the world, building their homes into the sides of mountains, inside caves, or even digging their own underground cities. Rashafolk are quite resilient, and seem to be able to make a makeshift home out of (almost) any location.
Suato - The lavish hermits, the Suato rarely leave their gulch, residing in the only naturally occurring form of shade in the entire world. They’re also not keen on sharing their land. The Suato believe that those best in position to have power should take it, a form of Meritocracy. However, generations of ruling have seen some Suato maintaining their power long after they should have, leaving some to wonder whats really going on behind the scenes.
Deimons - The persistent threat of the land, they seem to spawn from the pillars of light. Though they have no real home to call their own, Deimons are fond of razing cities. Some deimons seem content to wander the Sea of Sand, never getting close to civilization, though still intent on attacking any who get to close. Nobody’s quite sure why the Deimons exist, or what their true purpose is.
WBJ Day 2 - Geography
The World of Dyara has numerous geographical landmarks within it’s ever dwindling landscape, so let’s cover some of the most important ones:
The City of Varaksha
The largest settlement on Dyara, Varaksha acts as a gathering place. It remains perfectly positioned in the center of Dyara, caravans enter this city of commerce daily (though there isn’t really much other time to arrive) and it’s always a bustling center of activity.
Titan’s Pillar
The tallest mountain in all of Dyara, It’s unusual in shape, Though it starts out as a normal mountain, towards the peak it flattens off almost perfectly, as if the top was chopped off with a blade. Climbing this mountain is treacherous, and though numerous settlements dot the sides of it, no one dares climb to the top, lest they be baked alive.
The Suato Gulch A cavernous scar to the south that provides some of the much needed shade in this world. It’s the only naturally occurring formation that provides enough shade to live under. It’s been claimed by the Suato for generations, and they’re not particularly fond of sharing.
The Sea of Sand
The Sea of Sand is what surrounds the civilized world of Dyara. Beyond the limits of the explored realms, this vast stretch of desert spans for hundreds of miles in every direction, as far as anyone can tell. The pillars of light that cage the world can be seen just beyond the Sea of Sand, though nobody has ever ventured to them and lived to tell about it.
World Building June Day 1
I’ve been wanting to take part in this for a while I guess, and since courtofthehighlord started working on it, it gave me some reason to actually see what happens. HERE WE GOOOOooOOOoOOooOooO
Dyara - A world ensconced in light.
Dyara is the name of the continent, and as far as anyone is concerned, the name of the entire world. Dyara is a land bathed in light, whether it wants to or not. For the past millennium, the sun has not left it's position in the sky. The world bakes, the sky never darkening for even a moment as the harsh sunlight beats down, day after day.
The daily life in Dyara is one of struggle, as the people work hard simply to maintain their crops. Dyaran residents have more than just the heat of the sun to worry about though, as they find the land being slowly engulfed by pillars of blinding light. These beams of light act as a natural boundary, keeping the people of Dyara from exploring too far from the known lands.
Things aren't all doom for the citizens of Dyara though, after all you don't grow up in the harsh light of day without learning a few tricks of your own.
