Would they kill them for their darling? No
More: Life hated her. She was sure of it. Born broken in ways no one could fix, weak heart, weak lungs, barely-there muscles, bones like glass, and a brain that sometimes just forgot to control her body.
Tamo never wanted special treatment. Sure, taking it easy sounded nice, but she didn’t need it. Why slow others down when she could keep up with a little struggle? She wished she’d taken the easy way that time. They warned her not to push herself, to know her limits.
She joined her classmates for a game of baseball anyway.
Everything after was blurry,an impact to the chest, the taste of blood, the feeling of her chest caving in. She woke up three days later, surrounded by tubes and a terrified family. Her chest was visibly misshapen. How could one hit do this? Then again, she once broke her hand just dropping a textbook.
But this time… her family looked different. Grim. Distant.
Why wouldn’t they meet her eyes? Only when she was alone with a doctor did she get the truth: “The damage is too severe. Bone fragments everywhere. We’re waiting on a donor, your heart can’t be saved.” That explained the pain.
She tried to stay hopeful. Really, she did. But the doctors rotated constantly. No one told her where she was on the list. Hopelessness took root. Then came a new doctor. They were supposed to sign her off to hospice, but… she begged. They couldn’t just walk away, not yet.
That was months ago. Both she and the doctor know, even if a heart comes, her body might not survive the transplant. She’s dying. But she won’t give up. Not until she’s really gone. No matter what anyone says, she trusts them. They’ll save her. They visit HER the most. They have to save her.
“...Can’t breathe… without you…”
