Good morning world! Up before the sun over here and ok with it! Climate actions took place all over the world yesterday and will continue through the week and honestly, hopefully til some change happens! It’s been a while but I’m offering my first Wild Mushroom & Nature walk next Sunday, September 29. This will be the only walk I will offer this season in the greater Rochester area. When I first started Smugtown, we hosted walks weekly. I stopped doing them for the major part because I felt that people weren’t listening. Many were too eager, some literally put poisonous mushrooms in their mouths at the exact time in saying do not eat random mushrooms from the wild without knowing it for sure. Like, I can’t be responsible for that kind of behavior! Haha. There’s this movement to return to nature and the land but we still treat it like it’s a endless resource. My own personal relationship changed immensely with fungi, foraging and gathering from the wild over all. I’m not taking as much. I don’t need to harvest Reishi every year. I barely think twice about how much some wild harvest is worth. It’s not about that anymore. It’s about the sacredness of the spaces were we find these living creatures. It’s about the whole picture. The whole ecosystem. If you’re looking for a class that only teaches you edibles and how much they’re worth in the ‘marketplace’ this walk or any of my classes will not be for you. However, if you long to listen to all the sounds of the land, the birds, the insects and soil then JOIN ME! We are bound to find dozens upon dozens of species of mushrooms. We can’t have mushrooms without the ecology! Register on my website to join me and a small group of folks to explore the beauty of the Western Finger Lakes. Exact location is given upon registration. You won’t find us in the town of Springwater but we’re around there for sure. Lite snacks provided after the walk! #smugtownmushrooms #fungi #mycology #newyork #amanita #mycorrhizae #fingerlakes #flx #love #justbecauseitstheredoyoureallyneedtotakeit ? #dyingforconnection #trees #hemlocklake (at Springwater, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2qqFsCFLUE/?igshid=mu3qkc3d8j22
