Had the pleasure of seeing this fantastic talent direct the Grand Rapids Symphony. A great experience 🎶🎵❤️ #Repost @davidlockingtonconductor ・・・ I’m thrilled to be coaching conductors accompanying violinists in Lviv this summer. I have always loved accompanying- even before I met @dylanajenson - because it seemed soloists always got short changed. Because concertos were under-rehearsed they would have to compromise their interpretations and the tuttis wouldn’t sound good either. My goal is to reflect the spirit of the soloist’s carefully considered interpretation. Only on rare occasions do I ask a soloist to give a nod or ‘meet’ me. The reality is that I have learned about expression and pacing from the soloists I have collaborated with. Primarily, of course, from @dylanajenson . She taught me the push and pull of it all: when to stay steady and when to bob and weave with specific, unpredictable details. Some of this is intuited by honing in on fluctuations of tone production and some of it has to be notated, planned and rehearsed. I am often disappointed when it’s too easy to accompany. The beauty of music is in between the notes, in the silences and when expectations are thwarted. The latter is when my job gets interesting, not frustrating! #conductor #musicdirector #icwf #dylanajenson #pasadenasymphony #modestosymphonyorchestra #musicworkshop #classicalmusic #violinconcerto #soloist #cambridge #yale #yaleuniversity #british (at Hollywood Hills, Hollywood) https://www.instagram.com/bsqmedia/p/BvpL2iTheX-/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=39vk94hxub8j
